Hi Members of the Leica forum

My 50mm Summilux f1.4 Black Chrome 11688 has a front focus issue when used at f/1.4 or f/2

on my Leica M11-P.

If I use Live view I can pin the focus easily

It is only when I use the mechanical range finder system that I have to go more towards infinity to achieve adequate sharpness.

I have adjusted lenses in the past by take out shims and adding them when it be necessary.

With this lens I am stumped as how to get the whole lens group closer to the film plane.

This lens is similar to the 50mm Summilux f1.4 Black  11891 with optics and I also own this one

It is perfectly sharp at all apertures from 1.4 to 16 through the mechanical rangefinder system

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to repair the 50mm Lux Black chrome front focus issue

Thanks nvp

If your other lens works well with the rangefinder, it sounds like a lens rather than camera problem. It could be that the cam which contacts the rangefinder roller in the camera needs adjusting. I don't think this is a simple job, or that you will be able to fix it with shims. I have done approximate fixes by putting thin copper tape on a section of the cam contact surface, but with a lens like this it is best to get a proper adjustment by an expert.

The irony is that the lens obviously had an issue from day 1

It was in mint condition in its original box obviously because not being collimated correctly from the onset it never got used

I have seen https://sangin1122.tistory.com/1681?category=792059 article

and https://www.yukosteel.com/2021/06/disassembly-leica-summilux-m-50mm-f14.html

but they are not detailed enough after the initial dismantling

One of the forum members https://www.l-camera-forum.com/profile/98977-henners/

discusses it with the most detail and maybe has completely adjusted since his article.

All my lenses work perfectly on all film and digital bodies except this 50mm Lux Black chrome

It will sit in its original box until it is fixed !
