I am off on holiday soon with a Q3 and would like to back up photographs on a daily basis, I know that I can download to the Leica app on my phone.

But ideally I would like to backup to an external HD if possible, not thinking of taking my laptop as I will be traveling light!

So the question is, has Seagate etc produced an external HD that you can plug a SD into and just download to it??

TIA for any advice / suggestions

One of those is somewehere in a drawer, unused for a long time.
Bought it many, many years ago for same reason and it worked as supposed.
I suggest to not use a hard disk, but a SSD disk instead, much more robust for travelling than a HD with moving parts.

Google for "external ssd with sd card slot" and many treads and products pop up.
Just make sure that the device has a copy button to copy SD card to the SSD/HD and verify if only all files are copied or if you can choose them.

Option would be to buy many SSD cards and a reinforced SSD Card wallet to store them protected, SSD Cards are cheap nowadays.

Western Digital used to make an external drive that does exactly what you described - the My Passport Wireless SSD (it also broadcasts a WiFi signal for viewing videos, etc., on your laptop). I've used one for years for backup, both at home and on the road. But I think it has been discontinued.
