Looking at Leica D Lux as travel camera,

I own an M10, Sony A7RIV and use them with at least 2 sets of lenses, lately I find these camera heavy for my aging body, I am looking at the new DLux, any thoughts on how good this camera for one who is used to good IQ?

I was back from El Camino de Santiago (long walk) recently. I am probably similar age as you. The main gear I have is APS-C with two lenses, a normal zoom and and a super wide zoom. But next time, I would carry AF-FF, and increasing riding bus more instead of all walk. I am not sure yet whether I should have 24-90mm or 24-105mm.

But for travel, my wife would use her DLUX 8. 

The diffrerence is obvious the dynamic range and adjustability in post processing.

Great small compact carry camera. FYI.. if you're incline to carry a small flash other than the supplied one from Leica, the Godox IT30 "O"Pro "TTL" (Olympus version)                         https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1895978-REG/godox_it30pro_o_black_it30pro_o_ttl_mini.html

will communicate perfectly with the DLUX 8 for TTL flash.

Just for fun, change the JPG settings to Medium for a 105mm zoom or small JPG for 150mm zoom. The files are very small but usable in a situation where you're feet won't get you there to capture the image. With proper lighting and reasonable settings in daylight of F8@125th second will produce pretty nice images. Good luck!

To carry the whole setup around or holding the camera for long time in your hand?

There is not much to do for carry heavy and bulky cameras in the hand, a small, light lens what will balance the camera to avoid that wrist need excessive force to keep camera horizontally will help a bit.

For hauling the whole setup around a better bag or sling bag will do the trick, a small sling bag with camera extraction from the side to not take it off is for my use the most comfortable to wear for a long time.

I have no experience with the D-Lux but i don't doubt that it's a great camera and has a zoom lens, however i would prefer a Q series.

You hit the right spot about the proper bag. A proper monopod or chest pod helps too, if the travel is not backpack all thing all day.

In my previous El Camino Walk, I have to carry all luggage on my back, so minimum weight was essential. I could manage with two APS-C lenses, with the walking stick as monopod. This would be probably my last time of such long walk, In the future, I would use shipping service to ship some luggage stop to stop, only carry minimum necessaries on my back. This would be like leaving some gears in the hotel, only carrying the needed for the day on each day, depends on what to see of the day.

In such trip, the stand-by parts would be in my backpack, and the active camera would be on my waist clip or shoulder clip. I would not carry the camera on my neck, but if it is light enough, I may carry it with very nice strap on my shoulder across-body. 

DLUX could be a good choice depends on how important is the nature of photography in the trip. I should encourage to have it if money is not a consideration. You can  then try it at home to feel the IQ difference compared to other choices. You would know when to carry it when not.
