elroustom Posted Saturday at 07:05 PM Share #1 Posted Saturday at 07:05 PM Advertisement (gone after registration) Just for some fun - and throwing it out there. I recently added a Lumix S 50/f1.8 to my kit, and after reading how it is likely a very close cousin to the Summicon L, I decided to play. I set up my tripod and some random objects on my kitchen table and shot the same scene with the Lumix S, the Summicron R v1, the Summicron M DR, all at f2 & 1/250 (according to a light meter) with SL 1. I applied my usual minimal adjustments to the DNG files equally, but the sun moved a little between lens changes so I gave the two Leica shots 1/3 stop exposure in LR, and set the WB to Daylight for all (there were slight differences in each as raw files). Focus was on front edge of pressed glass bowl apples are in. I was curious to see how shallow the depth of field was with each. The differences are subtle. The Summicron R gives a little more focus to foreground than other two, the Lumix lens captures a slightly wider scene. The out of focus areas are less interesting from the Lumix, but it has the shallowest depth of field. I prefer the rendering of the R lens, if it's possible to detect a difference.
