Hi, I am considering to buy a D Lux 8 for street, EDC and travelling and I would just like to have an honest opinion about its sturdiness: I know it is not weather sealed, but how does this camera keep up in not-too-extreme conditions? Is it sturdy enough?

It is safe to use it in wet climate, cold or dusty places?

The dust on the sensor is still an actual issue or can be avoided using a lens protection (UV) filter?

I have a Sony A7CII today, and I know the D Lux just can’t compare in terms of resistance, but I would like to understand how far I can go with this little compact camera. The idea is to carry it with me wherever I go.

Thanks!

A UV filter does not prevent dust from getting into the lens. The dust enters the lens on the sides of the retractable lens tube.

I don't use my DL8 in extreme weather conditions like a sand storm not even on a sand beach with considerable wind / storm.

But I guess this is common sense for any non weather sealed camera, right?

I am not planning to use it in sand or wind storm, but I had other cameras, like the Leica CL, in the past that were not weather sealed and I used them in the desert in fine conditions and they never had a single problem.

My aim is just to understand if the D LUX 8 is exactly like every other non weather sealed camera, or if it is even more delicate.

1: I would not use it on beach or similar place that has flying sands. The ring-gap between the lens and the body is hard to prevent getting sand.

2: I would not use it near the water fall or similar location where there is water splash.

3: For ski or in snow area where the temperature is low, the first problem might be the battery. Also, getting in and out of room may cause moisture in the undesired place.
