colonel Posted 7 hours ago Share #1 Posted 7 hours ago (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Summilux M 50mm f1.4 classic vs Summilux 50mm ASPH v1 Different price levels but have opportunity to buy both these lenses. I had the ASPH 50mm a number of years ago and loved the sharpness and draw. The new classic Summilux seems more dreamy wide open but just as sharp closed down, except in the corners. I kind of felt like trying something new with the classic, also the silver looks nice with my safari but also aware of the extra weight. in terms of living with these lenses, and comments/exoerience ? thanks Edited 7 hours ago by colonel
Advertisement Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago Hi colonel, Take a look here Summilux M 50mm f1.4 classic vs Summilux 50mm ASPH. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
FrozenInTime Posted 5 hours ago Share #2 Posted 5 hours ago The new classic Summilux 11714 feels like it will hold together for 50 years; the lightweight inner mechanics Summilux ASPH 11891 did not last me five years.
catacore Posted 2 hours ago Share #3 Posted 2 hours ago I had the Classic for a few days, I had to send it back due to play in the aperture ring. I shot a few comparison pictures (wide open) in parallel to my Lux V1 and the difference is quite subtle (especially if the subject is centered). The out-of-focus area also look quite similar. I had sent the Classic back for a replacement, and asked the dealer to check the replacement one before sending it to me. I have not received a replacement because all the copies he had in stock were showing the same aperture ring play. 🙃 I ended up buying the Lux ASPH v2 instead (for supposed better mechanics than the V1), but I am still thinking to get the Classic at some point. Nevertheless, I have to sell the ASPH v1 to fund the Classic. My thinking was to have a lens with a classic, more rounded draw of the Classic (mainly for digital), and a lens with the sharpness and the field flattness of the ASPH (for film) (I could have bought, maybe, the APO Lanthar for that).
