mirrorless Posted October 4 Share #1 Posted October 4 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am looking for a ND-Filter for the 35mm 1.8 prime lens together with the SL3 in Video-Mode. Would you recommend a fixed filter or is a variable filter not a problem at all and more convenient? If so, which brand would you recommend?
Advertisement Posted October 4 Posted October 4 Hi mirrorless, Take a look here ND-Filter for Video SL3 / 35mm 1.8 Lumix. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Babylonia Posted October 6 Share #2 Posted October 6 (edited) There are so many ND-filters. It comes down to what quality you want. As well optically, neutrality itself and e.g. yes or no (multi layer) coating to avoid flare, and e.g. resistant against dirt and moisture. Most ND-filters have some "tiny" colour cast, are not fully neutral. Fixed filters are better than variable filters, as variable filters in reality are a double polariser filter, and have more colour cast problems. Besides "polarising" characteristics I don't want to take into account when doing photography. Can have banding problems when turned to a very dark result. I am not a videographer and by the relatively few times I do use them, I purchased a relative cheap set made by "Haida" https://www.haidaphoto.com/en/product-show/Greystone Series https://www.haidaphoto.com/en/product-show/PROII Series Three ND filters - 77mm - other lens sizes by step down rings. ND 0.9 = 8x ND 1.8 = 64x ND 3.0 = 1000x Including two metal caps, to screw the three filters together and at both "end" sides to cover the filters with those caps. By that, it is the most tiny package to store and carry the package, without extra boxes for each filter. But don't screw those filters to tight, as it is difficult to unscrew slim filters. Just relatively "loose". Neutrality is (far) better than I expected. The very tiny differences by using "no filter" can be tweaked easily in post processing. - Edited October 6 by Babylonia
harbelot Posted October 7 Share #3 Posted October 7 I used a K&F CONCEPT Filtre ND Variable ND2-400 67mm for my Sigma 24-70, it worked well. Slight color tint when used a full density but it was a good investment for 65 euros.
