Advertisement Posted October 1 Posted October 1 Hi rmueller, Take a look here FYI: Leica shares result of 2024/2025 financial year. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
frame-it Posted October 9 Share #2 Posted October 9 + Strong Demand in the Photo Segment Photography remains at the core of the business. Models such as the Leica Q3, the SL3 and SL3-S system cameras, as well as the compact Leica D-Lux 8, saw high demand. With the Leica M11-D, the company also introduced a camera that deliberately forgoes a display – pure photography in its most uncompromising form. Growth Through Additional Business Areas Mobile Imaging: The partnership with Xiaomi led to new smartphone series featuring Leica optics. Leica’s own LUX App has already surpassed 1 million downloads and has been expanded with the Leica LUX Grip. Smart Projection: The Cine Play 1 mini projector added a new cinema experience for home and on the go. Lifestyle & Eyecare: The new Leica ZM 12 watch and high-quality eyeglass lenses underline the expansion of the portfolio. Global Growth and Expansion All regions contributed to the success – with particularly strong growth in Germany (+11.4%). New stores in Wuhan, Tokyo, and Seoul, along with double-digit growth in online sales, further strengthened Leica’s global presence.
DenverSteve Posted October 20 Share #3 Posted October 20 (edited) I think that's great for Leica but, for the rest of us, it is built on the backs of their consumers. Great profits for Leica while we're spending thousands on their product without any financial benefit to us the consumers is, to me, nothing to celebrate. Obviously, the more they raise prices, the better their bottom line. Maybe if it was publicly traded and we, as stockholders, benefited from their boon, we could celebrate together with them. It might even be nice if upon registering a new purchase of a $7,000 camera or $9,000 lens, we received a $200 certificate for Leica products like a Leica 100 year book or camera case or ........? I'm glad they are doing so well...................... because of us. Edited October 20 by DenverSteve
LocalHero1953 Posted October 21 Share #4 Posted October 21 I didn't notice this thread (or Leica's post) earlier. Interesting that they choose to highlight the demand for SL3 and SL3-S alongside the Q3. Most of the glass-half-full armchair CEOs in this forum state authoritatively that the Q and M series are their success stories, and the SL series might go the way of the R. Just like every other company in history that has sold products to consumers. Do you not understand how commerce and capitalism work? 3

Leica's reputation is built on the M. I am not surprised that it is not the most profitable (nor best selling) part of their business, but the rangefinder camera is what their current success is built on. I ctually prefer my Sony A7 series cameras to the SL which I had and didn't gel with. A personal choice about a very capable camera, that's all. I hope Leica continue to grow and that at some point they enter the wider photographic marketplace with rather more realistically piced products.

I doubt that there is a business case for competing head-to-head with Canon/Nikon/Sony/Fuji at your local electronics supermarket. The SL line is competitive with high-end products from those companies, but Leica is wise to avoid the "volume at all cost" segment. Think of all the formerly great brands that have disappeared since the turn of the century. On the other hand, I'm sure that many ulcerated execs at those other companies wish they were in Leica's position!
Switz Posted November 9 Share #8 Posted November 9 (edited) Leica's prices are wallet draining to say the least. Recently, I wanted to start using a non-iPhone camera again and had Leica gear back in the film days of the R3 family. I had acquired a V-Lux (Type 114) with the 400mm lense in 2019 to take on a nine week Africa trip. Had a great experience with it. I have seen the "M" series over the years and thought I would jump into that pool. Just the M11 camera body cost more than my complete set of R3'with multiple lenses. I discovered a "used" M11 in silver built in April 2022 that had a two year "certified" warranty and saved several thousands from a new unit. The lense however was full list price. If I add the two lenses on either side of the 35mm f/1.4 lense I purchased, I could have over $25K in camera gear. That amount could purchase tons of Canon camera or Nikon gear. I have never seen a U-Haul following a hearse, so I will not be taking it with me and should enjoy it now (age 80). I had never held a "M" camera before and was totally surprised at the weight with the lense. The prices of Leica gear also reflect a very expensive labor pool in Germany. I think one pays dearly for quality. No regrets. Edited November 9 by Switz
giganova Posted November 17 Share #9 Posted November 17 (edited) Did they publish how many cameras of each model they sold? I once read that they are only selling approx. 100 M-A film cameras every year. Edited November 17 by giganova
