Lots of Elvis appearances and I guess if I imagine hard enough, I may see Erwin Put walking around also.

I don't know about you but I miss his lens reviews. Still hugging all of his self-published books.

Was always excited to read a new review from him.
bought several lenses based on what his testing showed.

would def prefer to run into him over Elvis.

Poor Erwin ... his death was so sudden. Could have been COVID-related.

Same thing here.  I was looking at "Leica lens and their souls" few minutes ago.

It could have been, but definitely was not. Please stop silly guessing.  There are a number of Forum members who knew him and his wife well.

Erwin left us too soon.
His wife told me once:
„ I dont know what Erwin is doing for his work, but I know that he knows a lot of people that find his work outstanding“

I once sent an email to Mr Puts asking for his advice on the strong contrast of the Biogon 35ZM. Knowing his reputation, his status within Leica circles, and how busy he must have been, I wrote more in hope than expectation. He responded the next day, providing the exact information I needed.

Aside from his knowledge, I was impressed by the friendliness and promptness of his response. Without knowing him at all, it told me a little about the kind of person he must’ve been.

Your post has motivated me to look for some copies of his publications. Thank you.

I had bayed all his book. I believe was the best in the field  for the new argument and the new view on it. I am also professor in Ophthalmology and I have asked him permission to share with my resident 45 pages of one of his book about optical aberration because there is no better text to teach ophthalmologist what is important in eye optics. My gratitude to him

I have asked him

Since Erwin's death, I think his brother is managing his copyright but I am sure he will agree.

High praise indeed!

I had the pleasure of working with Erwin for over a year for the Dutch Magazine “ FOTO” where we tested films and paper. It was very inspiring. I learned a lot ! I did not get payed a lot, but the uppertunity of working with him was mind changing!

Erwin

Erwin and his wife were great supporters of the Leica Fellowship in the UK and they came to most weekend events - two a year. He would always do an impromptu session on any Leica developments. I got him to sign his books for me at the weekend at Beaumaris on Anglesey, Wales. Always great company - life can be cruel and his illness non-discriminatory.

Here he is in 2012 at one of the Welsh narrow gauge stations. Fond memories!
