WvE Posted August 20 Share #1 Posted August 20 Advertisement (gone after registration) Looking for a compact zoom for my SL2-s. The new Leica 28-70 looks like an attractive option, but it is also quite expensive. Has anyone tried this lens, which is somewhat odd at max 60mm? Advertisement Posted August 20 Posted August 20 Hi WvE, Take a look here Lumix S 24-60mm f2.8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
AZach Posted August 21 Share #2 Posted August 21 Had originally the 24-90 SL, great lens but not at all compact. Found 24-60 range more useful than 28-70, so acquired the Lumix version. As first impressions quite happy, balances and works well with SL2-S.
shefys Posted September 1 Share #3 Posted September 1 (edited) depends on how and what you shoot - I traveled to Europe with 24-60 this summer and enjoyed 24-60 as my primary lens (also had 21mm f1.4 and 90mm f2.8 but never used 90mm). You can check this thread which I started a few months back: Edited September 1 by shefys

I was in the same situation as I needed a compact supplement to my 24-90 so I bought a used Sigma 28-70. I agree that the Leica version is very expensive, but optically it is identical to the Sigma and performance should be equal. You save a lot of money this way. The Leica versions of the Sigma lenses do give a much more exclusive feel as they are metal construction and I see that some also say that the weather sealing is better. You need to decide for yourself if this is important to you. If I were to start from scratch today I would probably go for the Sigma 24-70 mark II.
shefys Posted September 1 Share #5 Posted September 1 @Ivar B Sigma 24-70 mkII is a much heavier lens in comparison to 28-70 and 24-60 (and Sony 24-50). When I tried it for a couple of weeks on SL2S with Sigma 24-70 mk2, I didn't like it. The lens and camera combo were heavier than what I prefer to have, but I think the most noticeable was a lack of weight balance. Another minor annoyance was autofocus performance: for whatever reason, mkII was hunting a lot while Sigma 45 f/2.8 didn't experience such issues. Maybe it was an early version of mkII firmware or not, but in the end, I didn't enjoy using it. So after that, I have been waiting for what travel zoom lens to get - Sigma 28-70 is a nice compact option, but it doesn't have weather/dust sealing, which is annoying during travel. Then Panasonic released 24-60 with 77 filter thread, and I decided to take it instead of waiting for Leica 28-70 because I do use 24mm and would rather have that than 70mm. I do agree that Leica 28-70 would look much more stylish on my SL3 with 67mm filter thread 😅
Photoworks Posted September 2 Share #6 Posted September 2 I have all 3 lenses 24-90, 24-70, 24-60mm I have not done a full comparison on a leica body, But i will one day. I took the 24-60mm to my UK travel. It is very light, good image quality there is a lot in-camera-correction. At 24mm the lens a big correction in software. Many manufacturers are doing it, nothing new, it is the same with 24-90 from Leica. Flare is also an issue at 24mm Welcome, dear visitor! And I could have sone lots of it with my M11 at 28 and 50mm lenses, and i did. 2
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!
