Patrick NL Posted August 1 Share #1 Posted August 1 Advertisement (gone after registration) Like most owners of a Q camera, the Q3 28mm in my case, I do have other cameras next to it; the Q3 is great but I cannot do everything with it. So I have other cameras next to it. You too? I have been a Fujifilm X shooter for 10 years until I bought my Leica. The camera ruined me; the image quality difference is too big. So I sold most of my Fujifilm set and bought Nikon Z next to it; I have a history before Fujifilm with Nikon. Last year I bought the very nice Nikon Zf. A few weeks ago I bought the amazing Nikon Z8. What do you use next to your Q or don't you use something next to your Q?

Camaro5 Posted August 1 Share #2 Posted August 1 I just got back from an 8-day trip visiting friends and family in the Midwest U.S. I wanted to travel light and only used my Q3 28. For local work where I'm not flying, I also use a Canon R5 for important things and a Canon M50 II for more casual shooting.

Alexander108 Posted August 2 Share #5 Posted August 2 Same here. For even lighter gear (short business trips) I use a D-Lux 8. When I do landscape photography I use my R5. Image quality is in par with the Q3. But whenever possible I do street photography where my Q3 28 is just perfect.
JNK100 Posted August 2 Share #6 Posted August 2 I use an M with a 50mm for when I fancy a more focussed day or a different fov. One camera always stays at home though.
LocalHero1953 Posted August 2 Share #7 Posted August 2 Advertisement (gone after registration) My Q3 43 cannot shoot film. So if I'm willing to carry more than one camera it may be accompanied by one or two film cameras - if two, then B&W and colour. Last time it was a MP + Summilux-M 35mm pre-asph and II Model D + Summaron 3.5cm f/2.8. The Q3 43 is occasionally accompanied by more exotic items: a Chroma Carbon Adventurer with a 90, 125 or 240mm lens; or a BlackMagic CC6K. But those are different ball games, and it's really the Q3 43 that is just along for the ride.
keithlaban.co.uk Posted August 2 Share #8 Posted August 2 I typically travel overseas with the Q3 43 and a Nikon Z body with 3 lenses ranging from a Voigtlander Z mount 15mm to a native Nikon Z 85mm. Covers most bases. The Q3 43 is usually my single carry-around unless I know I'm intending to capture specific shots with another focal length. F-train Posted August 2 Share #9 Posted August 2 I have a X-E1 with some lenses as a camera for high trashability risk photography. (trashability risk for the camera, not the pictures…)
F-train Posted August 2 Share #10 Posted August 2 Oh and a Leica CL urban jungle and a X2 a la carte.
Jerryrock Posted August 2 Share #11 Posted August 2 (edited) I sold my Fuji gear too. Bought the Q3(28) and a year later bought the M11-P and a Hasselblad X2D. Edited August 2 by Jerryrock 1
lencap Posted August 2 Share #12 Posted August 2 (edited) 90% of my shooting is 50mm, so the Q3 43 with iPhone 14 PRO for wider and telephoto takes care of everything. The iPhone allows for easy editing/transfer/casual use for both photo and video, and the Q3 43 APO lens captures my candid people shots excellently. I recently sold my SL2-S kit (50mm SL Summicron f/2 ASPH, 24-90 zoom) despite the incredible flexibility for the lighter weight and "all in one" Q3 43 solution. Time will tell if that was the right choice or not, but the hype about the 43mm APO lens is real. Stellar images. Edited August 2 by lencap
F-train Posted August 3 Share #13 Posted August 3 Oh yes of course, my iPhone mini 13! When I traded all my Canons for a Q2m, bought an iPhone for colour pictures.

liggy Posted August 7 Share #15 Posted August 7 Most of my shooting is with an A1 Mk II and various lenses. Most of my longest tele shots and OM-1 / 150-400F4.5. Awesome lens. Bunch of Fuji gear as well that isn’t being used much now. Q2 is a walk around and nighttime low light / compact solution.
Jared Posted August 7 Share #16 Posted August 7 Q343 is my first choice for family events, walk around, and non-photo-centric travel. If I need more speed (focus, fps, etc) and a wide range of focal lengths? Fuji-X. I don’t find a big difference in quality if using the right lenses and light is adequate. For photo-centric travel and landscape shots? Hasselblad X2D. Wish there were a proper telephoto in the system. - Jared
Tarekith Posted August 7 Share #17 Posted August 7 Other than my Q3 43 I also have a Sony A7CR and a decent collection of small primes and zooms for it. Mostly reach for the Sony when I want to do any bird photos, or for when I’m traveling to sketchy places and I’d rather have a $3k camera stolen and not a $7k camera stolen. I also extensively use my iPhone 16 Pro shooting RAW when backpacking and hiking. Love my cameras but l like ultralite backpacking more and don’t want the added weight of even my A7CR. mokona Posted August 7 Share #18 Posted August 7 I pair the original Q with a Fuji S5 pro (aps-c) and an old Nikon 50mm f1.8 afd. I find this combination light enough when traveling, despite how slow is the fuji S5 and since I use Silkypix as raw converter.
Wolfs head Posted August 7 Share #19 Posted August 7 I bought a Q2 followed by an M10-R (plus Voigtlander 50mm APO) and they ruined my enjoyment of the X-Pro 3 and quite extensive lens kit. I wanted to maintain some capability for long lenses and (possibly) simple video, so like the OP, I bought a Nikon (Zf) and the 24-120 S lens. My favourite to use is the Q2, but I find the retro style of the Zf irresistible ( yes - I’m that shallow 😀). best wishes A
Jed Buchwald Posted August 7 Share #20 Posted August 7 For city and street I carry a Q3 43 together with a D-lux 8 (the latter for 24-42mm in the city). Fit together in a fairly small Oberwerth bag. For landscape I have an SL-3 with two Panasonic lenses, 14-28 and 28-200, which all fit in a Thinktank 20 bag. The lenses are quite good, if limited to higher f nos. We'll be driving around England next month, and I'll take both sets.
