IIf ASA settings

I have just started using a recently acquired IIIf red dial w/Summitar 50mm 1:2 lens. I have had both the lens and the camera CLAed by DAG and I'm thoroughly enjoying using this superb instrument. I have shot a few rolls of ASA100 and now want to shoot some ASA400 but I'm unable to determine how to set the correct ASA for this film speed - the ASA dial features the following settings: 100, 80, 50, 40, 25, 20, 16, 10, 8. Which setting do I select for 400 film? BTW, I use only b&w film in this camera.

Welcome to the forum, Humphrey

Given that the IIIf has no internal meter, the setting for the ASA on the camera is just a reminder for you so that you know what film you are using. It doesn't affect the operation of the camera at all. My meterless M2 has a similar dial on the back plate, and I never change it.

Just set your external meter to the appropriate ASA and you're away.
