cecil33 Posted August 29, 2006 Share #1 Posted August 29, 2006 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would like to add the 15 mm to my list. Did anybody can tell which one is the best choice? old design or new?
Advertisement Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Hi cecil33, Take a look here R15/3.5 or 15/2.8. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
k_g_wolf ✝ Posted August 29, 2006 Share #2 Posted August 29, 2006 Even as a s/h- opportunity the current lens might be 5x more expensive than the older version. But it´s a rare find. Somebody who bought the 2.8- lens won´t give it up easily, it´s too good. If you have the cash get the new one. If not, you don´t seem to have another choice. Go for the older version, it´s by no means 5x worse than the new one. Best
pascal_meheut Posted August 29, 2006 Share #3 Posted August 29, 2006 I agree with k_g_wolf I had both. Clearly the old one is not bad. Not the sharpest lens ever, some lack of definition in the corner and a "normal" contrast. I was even ok on the DMR. But I found the new one at a "reasonable" price and as it is smaller, lighter, I switched because using the 15mm/3.5 on top of the R9+DMR was like working out. The 15/2.8 ASPH is indeed better optically, even very good for such a super-wide but too expensive. Unless you find a bargain or this is one of your workhorse, you should stick with the 15mm/3.5. albertwang Posted August 29, 2006 Share #4 Posted August 29, 2006 Why does Leica charge an absurd price for the new 15mm geewhiz? It's more than half of a Mini!
pascal_meheut Posted August 29, 2006 Share #5 Posted August 29, 2006 Good question indeed. I mentionned it to Stefan Daniel once as this makes a DMR's 21mm quite unaffordable.
albertwang Posted August 29, 2006 Share #6 Posted August 29, 2006 Yes, shooting a 21mm shouldn't have to cost $7500 once you own a DMR seriously. I can go Olympus for much cheaper!
