I have been playing with d-lux 8 lately and am very satisfied with its handling and image quality.  the auto-focus speed and accuracy is so good that I do not miss my x2 at all.  one drawback though is the relatively slower startup time from power off.

I noticed the batter drain (from full to zero within a week when the camera is turned off) and searched the internet for possible reasons.  one blog said that Leica rep. told him it was caused by leica fotos app.  and once the leica fotos app is disconnected, the battery drain is gone.  and to make things better, the startup time is much faster, almost from the time you press the power button to raise it to your eyes, it is ready for shooting.  of course, geo-tagging would not be possible in this situation.

just for your reference.  if you don't care so much about geo-tagging and want d-lux 8 power up faster, you can give it a try by disabling Leica Fotos app connection.

I actually do not experience a delay when switching the camera on when the Fotos App is running and connection is set to "on" in the camera. I also did not experience significant battery drain when connectivity is switched on. With Leica Photos switched on, however, switching off the camera can take up to 10s from pushing the button until the lens retracts. That really puzzled me first until I realized the connection to the Fotos app.

However, when on a photo trip really want to have geo-tracking. So, I live with that.

Turning off connectivity to the Leica Fotos app stopped the battery from draining on my D Lux 8.

It’s simple to turn it back on, via menu tree 4.

Leica is aware of this issue and is unable to fix it with a firmware update.

Out of curiosity, slow relative to what?  Mine is up and available in approximately 1 second.
