Alberti Posted July 10 Share #41 Posted July 10 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you, just like me, "hate" cookies and the sort, just because there are so many websites that just 'read' all cookies for you, and have told Firefox to do something about it (like delete all cookies and associated secret downloads right with the closing of the program) then you are in trouble. Other browsers do not give that option, e.g. safari. Did you know that some shops on High Street will capture your mobile device name/ID when you walk by and look at the shop. Handy isn't it? Some highways capture that too.... - I once proposed a statistical program to provide statistics which shop window (it was an exhibition stand) was most interesting/attractive. So. Right. Then. You have to start a fresh slate everytime with Firefox. [In Safari I have no trouble.] There is I think the possibility to make 'pass keys' in some operating sytems such that a browser can log in automatically. Advertisement Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Hi Alberti, Take a look here Why does the Forum website ask so often, ( almost daily ) for Cookie Preferences?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LocalHero1953 Posted July 10 Share #42 Posted July 10 I don't normally have this problem, but then I use Consent-O-Matic as a Safari (MacBook) and Brave (PC) extension which responds on my behalf without me noticing; occasionally it preselects 'decline' while leaving me to 'confirm preferences'. Consent-O-Matic works well with most sites, but some use cookie preference popups that are not compatible and I have to work through them manually.* The oddity on my iPhone (Safari) is that most of the time I remain logged in to the LUF. I have an icon shortcut to the forum; just occasionally I tap it and find I've been logged out, even though Safari has remained open with multiple forum pages open. *Do website owners realise how much it pisses their users off having to scroll through a long popup declining all the individual options? Do they really think some people will accept some options but not others?
andybarton Posted July 10 Share #43 Posted July 10 To your latter point, IIRC, this is a government mandated requirement. The website owners would rather you just allow all cookies automatically without being asked.
LocalHero1953 Posted July 10 Share #44 Posted July 10 I accept the need to ask - it's the number of questions they ask that irritates me. Not all of them do - some offer you the straightforward single 'decline' button. I suspect those that offer you a long list would prefer you to accept them all out of frustration.
Smudgerer Posted July 10 Author Share #45 Posted July 10 Happened three times today with the computer on all the time, I just wandered off to other websites but on returning to LF up came the same annoying messages everytime. Again, it does not happen with any other regularly visited website, it has to be something to do with the LF site.......But what and how to kill it?????? adan Posted August 1 Share #47 Posted August 1 Advertisement (gone after registration) Today (Aug. 1, 2025) I starting getting the "cookie preferences" interrupt again, after several months without it. Perhaps there was a forum-software update. It is clear I have some preferences saved, since my log-in/password is and has been always remembered (as requested). I assume those can be checked by the Admin. I went through the multiple list, and disabled everything except the very first selection. That is and always will be my preference. I hope that "sticks" in the future.
