He had a certain look in his eye when talking about a 35mm Noctilux.

Peter Karbe:

“A 35 for example, Noctilux, is not so easy because you have a wider angle and it's not easy to control. We need additional technology to keep it compact. Let's see what the future will bring. But there is a need for a new Noctilux.”

It’s almost here! I don’t think I can resist this lens.

If they manage to make it not too big, I think I'll be very tempted too. I'm getting more and more fond of the 35mm focal length. 50mm is mostly for getting a smoother background. But if I could get the same from a 35mm, that might be all I need. And I want more character than the current 35mm Summilux offers. Wide open, I'm sure a Noctilux will have that, no matter how good it is.

It’s even more difficult to achieve the Leica Look in a 35mm focal length…🤔

35mm is my favourite focal length nowadays with the 50mm coming out less often and the 28mm even less so. I really want a modern 35mm to compliment the pre-ASPH for those times when performance on the wider end is not risking the hazy washed out look we often get on the v2 at f1.4. I’d also like closer focusing. My copy also needs to go to Wetzlar at some point for a tab replacement and I’ve been reluctant to send it as I have no direct replacement for my favourite focal length.  I’ve been considering the pre-FLE and living with the focus shift as that lens has something, but I thought it wise to hold out and see how small and no doubt, expensive this one is first.

I hope you are right. At f1.2, it will be nice if it has less bite than the FLE. Wide open at middle distances it will have that slight additional separation too which I really enjoy on extremely fast and wide lenses.

A very good comparison between the Leica and Sony lenses…🧐

Thanks for sharing the link. I would not have thought that the Sony 50/1.2 would be so exorbitantly better in every respect than the 50mm Summilux. Or is it just due to the poor execution of the comparison?

The Sony has a clinical overly aggressive sharpness compared to the Leica’s laid back rendering with exceptional micro contrast…👀

These three (there may be more - I've lost count) are already having a good discussion in this thread. If only they could find a way to reach agreement........

OK. here are two photos one of which was taken on a Leica using a Leica lens, the other was taken on a different camera. Can anyone tell me which was taken on the Leica? Which has the 'look'?

They agree that Leica Lenses render in a non aggressive way while allowing micro contrast more…👀
