Goon525 Posted June 26 Share #1 Posted June 26 Advertisement (gone after registration) I pretty much never use video, but keep finding my camera has switched to it - causing confusion when it won’t work as expected. I’ve checked all four user buttons, and none is set to switch to video (I believe people had trouble with this after the last firmware upgrade), and I’d be really grateful if someone could point me at a solution. Advertisement Posted June 26 Posted June 26 Hi Goon525, Take a look here Why does my Q3 43 keep switching to video?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
peachykeen Posted June 26 Share #2 Posted June 26 Double-check the Fn2 button. After a firmware update it usually defaults to photo/video toggle even if there was another or no function assigned to it. Also make sure your nose or thumb isn't accidentally triggering a left swipe on the touch screen.
ruskkyle Posted June 26 Share #3 Posted June 26 It's when you swipe your finger across the touchscreen from left to right. I think it can be disabled
Goon525 Posted June 26 Author Share #4 Posted June 26 I’ve checked the F2 button, and it’s not that. The unintentional left swipe is quite possible - I’m left eyed and so my nose tends to be against the screen. So how can one disable ? (Thanks for replies to date.) peachykeen Posted June 26 Share #5 Posted June 26 Did you check Fn2 in the camera settings or by actually pushing it? I had the situation that I had the focus magnifier assigned to it, but a button press still did the video toggle. To disable the touch screen, set the rear screen to "EVF extended" -- Main Menu, Section 5 - Display Settings - EVF-LCD -> EVF Extended More information in the instruction manual, pages 66 and 67.
Cogito Posted June 26 Share #6 Posted June 26 Happened to me last weekend, first time in 9 months. Not that big a deal to switch back, but disconcerting because I didn’t realize what had happened. Should be an option to disable, I would never use this camera for video, would use phone instead.

Yup, tried both ways on FN2. It’s not that. I don’t really want to turn off the touch screen completely - I take it there’s no way of just disabling the one irritating function? Incidentally, does a right swipe restore photo functionality?

"EVF Extended" doesn't do that. That's why I mentioned the corresponding pages in the manual, They explain in detail what it does and what other options you have. You can also combine it with a "Focusing" setting of your choice, found on Main Menu, Section 1. There is no way (yet) to just disable the photo/video swipe, or to disable video mode altogether. If enough people complain about it, it will most likely be added in a future firmware. After all, Leica also added the AF-point centering by pushing the D-Pad center button after too many people complained about this function missing. 48 minutes ago, Goon525 said: Incidentally, does a right swipe restore photo functionality? Yes, a swipe to the left does undo the switch to video, restoring photo functionality. It is quick and easy. Try it. There doesn't seem to be a way to fully turn off the swipe-right-switch-to-video. However, if you turn off the touch screen and turn off the LCD, then your nose will not activate the switch while using the EVF. It can still happen if you pull out the LCD, which activates the LCD, which activates the swipe right switch, which apparently can't be turned off. Goon525 Posted June 26 Author Share #10 Posted June 26 Thanks to all for help and responses. Peachykeen, I’m away from home which is why I haven’t jumped straight into the manual as per your suggestion, (yes, could probably find online) but I appreciate your help.
