Derbyshire Man Posted August 1 Share #61 Posted August 1 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I think it sounds fine. I’d rather have a good condition fully reconditioned camera from Leica factory direct with full warranty than one from a store with unknown provenance personally. My guess is that when you receive it it will look brand new. Edited August 1 by Derbyshire Man

Despite their staffing -and thus timeframe- difficulties they will be customer friendly. Agreed - slow, but very helpful and good results generally (one camera had to be returned twice). I should add, though, that my Leica ownership turns on its lenses and more than one camera. If I had just one M camera, I would be a lot less understanding over repair delays. Bloody favouritism, that's what it is! 🤣 Has yours come back yet ? Since they can't repair mine and sending replacement which Germany had the instruction to send to Mayfair a few weeks, its radio silence treatment and to emails asking, so when is it arriving ! I understand shipping takes time, but the lack of any info since is a tad waring!
Derbyshire Man Posted September 3 Share #65 Posted September 3 No, they were waiting on a part that was going to take 7 weeks to be ready. I fully support Mayfair/UK trying to take on some of the simpler repairs, it's sensible but triage should be on the basis of the support form, it's clear all along that Mayfair would not be able to change the rear screen and top plate with OVF so it was always going to go to Germany. Therefore going via Mayfair simply adds 2-3 weeks of batching/shipping on the way out and probably a 1 week or so on the way back. At the beginning of Brexit export for repairs to the EU needed upfront permission from Customs and Excise, hence the paperwork and batching. Under article 8 this advance permission is no longer needed so it should be simple to send direct to Germany if the triage says cannot be fixed in the UK. https://www.chamberelancs.co.uk/international-business-news/returning-eu-goods-for-repair-exporting-international-business/ I find Mayfair helpful when I get their attention but I suspect if they don't know the answer to an email it goes into the too difficult box and doesn't get answered rather than a reply to say 'not sure, will chase with repair team' or similar, it's not ideal customer service although I suspect they mean well.

M11 always have the shutter curtain open as soon as it’s turned on, so it can constantly meter. That’s also why you hear that horrendous stapler sound when you turn it on. Live view doesn’t work, auto ISO stuck to max. That’s a typical sign of shutter refusing to open to meter. You still can take pictures with full manual mode. M11 is know to this issue. I remember I saw a YouTube with this issue before. I might also ad this “issue” can be caused by light leakage confusing the camera as to if a lens is attached with some of the older (and yes Leica ones) ltm to m adapters. I assume you experienced this with 6-bit lenses also?
