Hello folks. I am considering picking up a copy of the Leica SL Zoom 24-70/2.8. I go on eBay and I see a copy being sold with mention of some dust inside the lens. Then I saw another one for sale at a really great price but apparently it was because of dust internally. Seller said the lens is known for dust issues. I did a search here but did not see anything about it. Maybe I missed it or there is no dust issue?

TIA and HAGWE

This lens is supposed to be dust resistant, but there are reports to the contrary. The Leica 24-70 was based on the first Sigma 24-70 DG DN which had dust problems. These problems were solved or lessened in later copies of the Sigma, but I am unaware of Leica fixing this issue. The new Sigma 24-70 v2 does not seem to have these dust issues.

The new Sigma v2 is lighter, focuses faster, has external controls, is native L mount, and appears to have even better image quality than before. So if you are not wedded to the idea of a Leica branded lens, you might also consider the new Sigma, which is way less expensive than the Leica.

The dust problem is well known for this lens. My lens accumulated a lot of dust under the front element. I sent it to Leica and they cleaned it properly, quickly and free of charge, and the lens was out of warranty. I don`t know for sure, but some report that the problem did not reappear,
