Bnoa Posted June 19 Share #1 Â Posted June 19 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I am a current sigma FP L owner with a number of sigma contemporary and art series lenses. I have used the camera for several years and while I enjoy using it, I am running into some difficulty now as I dabble in studio & portrait photography - limitations in how sigma implemented flash and the use of remote triggers. I have tried the Panasonic series but didn't enjoy it. As such, I am considering a SL or SL2S. If there are any SL or SL2S owners (current or former) who have also used a sigma FP L, can you comment on the performance of the sigma vs the SL series? Specifically in the areas of single autofocus speed & accuracy (preferably but not necessarily limited to sigma or Panasonic glass). My intended use would be primarily studio photography and portraiture using triggered flash. Â Thank you. Â Edited June 19 by Bnoa

Photoworks Posted June 19 Share #2  Posted June 19 I can see the challenge of the FP being an electronic shutter-only camera. I have been using the SL2 and SL3 in the studio for years and it is a great camera for it. I have now added the Panasonic S1RII. the AF with face-body is very good in the Leica and the viewfinder is nice in detail if you are in AFs "single". I typically use a 33-foot USB cable and Capture one, the images come on the screen very fast and it is very helpful to get the client's opinion as you go. I use many different lighting brands and most of the time they will have a set power, to control each light. In a few rare situations, I use TTL. So any trigger with a central pin can work. You probably already have some lights, but if you need to control them from the trigger, the only options are profoto and some godox. TTL lights are often with pre-flash and the camera will have a delayed response of taking the picture. To this point, the S1RII has a strange way of doing it with 2 preflash. anyway, SL2s with work well with any L-Lens and a trigger in the studio. 3
LocalHero1953 Posted June 19 Share #3 Â Posted June 19 I agree with @Photoworks. I have not had the fp L but I had the fp and can't imagine using it for portraits because of the small screen (and electronic shutter). I use the SL2-S with Godox triggers: XPro till recently and now the Godox X3-Leica. Despite getting the Leica version I'm unlikely to use it much with TTL - I mainly use off-camera flash and prefer manual exposure and balancing (modern digital makes it so easy to check and adjust).
