I recently purchased a used Mint condition 75mm Summarit f2.5 lens. It did not come with a hood. Separately, I managed to find a used hood in good condition as it was only sold as an accessory; although you can find the lens with hood already online.

I could not figure out initially why the hood did not attach to the lens. I thought for a minute that maybe the hood I bought was not compatible but it is the 12460 hood that is specifically for the 75mm and 90mm Summarit lenses so it had to fit. My Summarit had the ring at the end past the f-stop ring. I found info online that said the end ring had to be taken off to fit the hood (which can also be put in reverse for storage!) but the end ring was on very tight.

I saw tutorials online saying to use shelf mats and a thick rubber band to assist in removing the ring. Those are methods recommended also for when a filter is stuck on a lens. However, I could not get it off. I ordered these rubber mats for removing lids off jars (brand Jar Heads) and it worked perfectly. It still took some force but the ring finally came off! Just posting here in case others need some advise on the subject.

Thank you very much! I struggled with exactly this problem about three years ago. Who came up with this nonsense? In the end, I tucked the aperture away in the back of the closet and simply stopped thinking about it. In fact, the lens has never had a problem without the aperture. And it remains so wonderfully handy. One reason why I chose it. If you don't like constantly playing with the aperture and value traveling light, this is an excellent lens. Have fun with it!

I should add, I saw recommendation to unscrew the ring clockwise while looking into the front of the lens. It's lefty-loosey as usual when facing the front of the lens. Don't want to accidentally overtighten the ring by accident.

Yup definitely anti-clockwise to loosen that "beauty " ring. At lease the hood doesn't loosen like some of the other threaded Leica hoods though.
