Derbyshire Man Posted June 4 Share #1 Posted June 4 Advertisement (gone after registration) As per the title, I've recently got a second hand Q3 and I'm finding for street portraits, too often I raise the camera and it has put itself in video mode and the shot is lost. My survey questions are, has this happened to you and would you like to see the ability to disable it? 2 question survey here https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/qvideoswipe I'll send to Leica if anyone actually fills is in and has a problem apart from me! I realise I can turn off all the useful functions like the ability to move the focus point during use via extended viewfinder but that's a huge loss to solve something which in my view should be a separate menu item. Advertisement Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Hi Derbyshire Man, Take a look here Survey: Swiping from left to right on the Q launches video mode, friend or foe?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ckern Posted June 4 Share #2 Posted June 4 Yes: egregious misfeature. Anything that could allow a user to accidentally reconfigure a device into an undesired mode is poor industrial design. Leica invested a considerable amount of engineering expertise into developing an intuitive set of controls for the Q-series cameras while failing to include the obvious capability to prevent unintended changes from stills to video. 1
Tarekith Posted June 5 Share #3 Posted June 5 Personally I never have triggered it accidentally, didn’t even know it was a thing for the first two months of use. So I don’t mind it myself, though I DO wish that we could assign that swipe movement to whatever we want as well.

I've added two additional questions; if adding a menu item can't be done then leave as is or remove function entirely and comments box. Apologies! LocalHero1953 Posted June 5 Share #5 Posted June 5 This has never happened to me and never will. All my Leica cameras are set to EVF/LCD Extended Mode, so the rear screen is normally black except when I'm reviewing pictures or setting menus. I use the EVF and arrow keys to move the focus point - I find it quicker and more accurate than moving it with the camera away from my eye. I am curious why people don't use Extended Mode - not as a criticism, but I'd like to know what benefits you gain from having a continuously active LCD.

I use my Q3 in exactly the same way!
LocalHero1953 Posted June 5 Share #7 Posted June 5 Advertisement (gone after registration) I should add, after looking at the other thread on this subject: I have Touch AF in EVF set to OFF. If I want a quick look at the LCD I pull it out slightly - a benefit of the Q3 series.
Le Chef Posted June 5 Share #8 Posted June 5 I use EVF Extended so it's never an issue. Touch AF is off. I don't chimp. And I just wait until I'm home to review in LightRoom what I shot. Much as I would do with film.
zlatkob Posted June 5 Share #9 Posted June 5 It's never an issue ... until that time when it is. I too use EVF extended mode, so the LCD is normally black. And touch AF is off. However, every now and then I flip the LCD out for a low shot or high shot, so I can see the framing on the screen. And that's when it's easy to flip the camera into video mode unintentionally. This should obviously have an Off setting. Now that I know it can happen, and I know it will happen eventually, I'll be on the lookout for it.
