krillnasty Posted June 4 Share #1 Posted June 4 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi everyone, I have a few trips coming up and want to bring both my Q3 43 with extra battery, and my MP + 35mm with a few rolls of film. I’m looking for a small bag to hold these. I have been looking at the Domke F-5XB. Has anyone here used this bag for such a combo, or can recommend another small bag to fit both? Thanks so much! Advertisement Posted June 4 Posted June 4 Hi krillnasty, Take a look here Small travel bag recommendation for Q3 43 + MP with 35mm. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LocalHero1953 Posted June 4 Share #2 Posted June 4 I have that Domke and it is right for the capacity you want. However, mine, from a decade or more back, lacks padding at the ends of the bag, just a pad that goes from the sides and underneath - and not very thick padding either. It also had velcro fastening which I dislike intensely in camera bags. I removed it and added a couple of magnetic catches instead. The Domke is not stylish - it looks like a worker's bag, especially after you've renewed the waxing on the canvas - I don't mean this as a criticism. There are plenty of other bags of this capacity - I also have a Fogg b minor (good for Q and M together), and a locally-made custom leather bag. The choice is vast, depending on whether you want leather, canvas of natural/artificial fibre, zips, buckle or other catches etc. I like bags where the strap goes underneath for support, and has no metal near the bag to cause damage, nor zips for the same reason. And it has to be weatherproof, and should not allow rain to get in at the ends of the flap near the straps.

wattsy Posted June 6 Share #4 Posted June 6 I used to have a couple of Domke bags in the late 1990s when I didn't really know any better. They are generally fine (I note Paul's point about padding but I think it is adequate, as long as you are not in the habit of throwing your bag on the floor) but when I started using Billingham bags, the Domke bags became redundant. Even if Billingham bags were not otherwise generally superior functionally (they last decades of daily use), I would still use them for their water resistant quality. Billingham bags are made using a 'canvas'/rubber sandwich and are thus essentially rainproof. Domke bags just soak the rain up like a sponge and take hours to dry out. raizans Posted June 7 Share #6 Posted June 7 The Leica Combination bag made by Billingham is the right size.
misteracng Posted June 9 Share #7 Posted June 9 Advertisement (gone after registration) The wotancraft pilot bags are excellent, they are light weight as well. they have structure but collapse done nicely. The 3.5L is perfect for those 2 cameras, they can both have lenses mounted and it fits perfect, you can fit some film in there or the front compartment, or add one of there armor bags on the side for accessories. KateStarr Posted June 16 Share #8 Posted June 16 I'd take a look at a Billingham Hadley Small Pro. The Wotancraft Pilot 3.5L is a great little bag too.
phojomatic Posted June 26 Share #9 Posted June 26 I have that same Domke but think it will be too small for a Q3 and M. It just fits two Fuji xpros OR one Fuji and one M6, with the caveat that they have to both be on their side. it’s really better for one M and a extra lens (will fit a lens pouch). another though is the Domke F6…space with extra for water, etc.
