Hi,

I have attempted to update my D-Lux 8 to the latest firmware (Version 1.5.0) and have followed the instructions on the download notes with no luck. I format the SD card in the camera and load the new software onto it, yet when the camera looks for the new firmware it says that there is no new firmware on the SD card. The new firmware definitely shows as being on the card, so what is going on? I have also tried to update the camera via the Fotos app, but that is a dead end and it seems there is no way to do it, despite Leica saying that it is possible. Any ideas?

I just downloaded v1.5 to a SD card that I formatted in camera, then on my laptop I deleted the DCIM and PRIVATE folders that were on the card.

I placed the SD card back in the camera and began the update. The update took around 30 seconds and appears successful.

I then put the SD card back in my laptop and deleted the v1.5 firmware from the card.

The only oddity is, firmware notes for 1.4 and 1.5 mention: "The prompt Save profiles on SD Card? appears."

This prompt did not show with either upgrade.

On v1.4 I did not lose my settings or user profiles.

With v1.5, it looks like the camera has been set back to default. Very frustrating that it does actually not allow the settings to be saved.

I need to make up a cheat sheet for my settings/profiles for future firmware updates.

Good luck with your firmware update.

Update:

It is looking like my Default S Profile may be intact after all.

But, my button customizing is gone. That was the first thing I tested, and the buttons went back to default. An odd thing for the user settings to stay, but lose the button settings. At least that's a simple thing to update.

Thanks for your help. I eventually managed to update the camera via the Fotos app, but I have to say that it wasn't intuitive. One might have thought that going into 'Firmware' on the app might reveal the way to update the camera, but for me the update option only came up after I had shut down the app and disconnected the camera.

The Fotos app is a liability. It flakes out halfway through loading new firmware or sending images back from the SD card. It’s faster and safer to put an SD card into your computer download the firmware to the root directory and reinsert the card to your camera and go through the process. Or download images straight from the card into LightRoom. Either way you won’t lose anything or lockup the camera.
