Kiwimac Posted May 20 Share #1 Posted May 20 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was drooling over an original 35 Steel Rim recently. It’s fitted with the original goggles which obviously aren’t needed to use it with for example an M11. I’ve no experience of the goggles thing. This one has two small screws holding the lens/goggles assembly together. The seller thinks that you can simply unscrew those and remove the lens and then mount it solo. I’ve read that in some cases the lens won’t correctly interface with the focus cam in the rangefinder. Anyone have any experience of this?
Advertisement Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Hi Kiwimac, Take a look here Goggles: can you remove them?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ecar Posted May 20 Share #2 Posted May 20 No, it's not just a matter of removing the screws - at least if you want accurate RF coupling. A full conversion with proper focus can be done by an expert technician. It will likely provide closer focus capabilities but will not be reversible. It will also be an expensive job. I would leave that goggled M3 lens alone.
Kiwimac Posted May 20 Author Share #3 Posted May 20 Thanks. I was merely curious. For that much money I could buy a 35 Apo and have change! It would be extra expensive for me, too, as dollars to donuts the necessary expert technician is not in New Zealand!
