Tseg Posted May 31 Share #61  Posted May 31 Advertisement (gone after registration) Now a couple days in and I'm really enjoying this APO... it is like a "right-sized" Q lens design (with its right-sized beautiful square hood).  It's easy to focus, it's good looking, it's small... Now I need to see how long the honeymoon lasts before I pick up my 18mm & 50mm again.  Welcome, dear visitor! Jan1985 Posted May 31 Author Share #62 Â Posted May 31 Cool that you all tend to the 35 APO. So it should be better to keep it. My only problem is that I use my M for wedding photography since 10 years. and sometimes I think with an SL it could be easier in some situations even with a lens like the APO.
Crem Posted June 1 Share #63  Posted June 1 For all those with the APO like @patrickcolpron, do you always use the lens correction profile in Lightroom? I noticed it has some distortion. Seems like the FLE has less and is easier to correct. I rarely bother with the correction profile on the FLE. It’s also easy to correct it for the FLE with film scans.

I'll do a quick test to compare the distortion on both lenses, not sure what the distortion is on either lenses or if there more on one or the other.  It is not something I really pay attention to or noticed either with film or digital. Edited June 1 by patrickcolpron

Supposedly there is some wave distortion in the APO towards the edges that is more difficult to remove than the FLE. I doubt it matters most of the time. I’m going to download some raw files from Dpreview to try and confirm.

Supposedly there is some wave distortion in the APO towards the edges that is more difficult to remove than the FLE. I doubt it matters most of the time. I’m going to download some raw files from Dpreview to try and confirm. I initially looked at two images, one made with the APO and one with the FLE, could notice distortion in both lenses when applying lens profile correction in Adobe Bridge which I am pretty sure is the same lens correction Adobe Lightroom applies. Because these were photos of different subjects made on different days well... that didn't show nothing to compare with, only that there is lens correction applied to both lenses and everything looked better the lens correction  applied. So,... I put a Really Right Stuff L-bracket on an M10-R, made a couple of photos using a tripod and same camera settings with both the APO 35 and 35 FLE, indeed there is edged distortion, a slight pincushion style of lens distortion with the APO, which the lens profile in the software corrects perfectly. The FLE has what looks like barrel distortion, the center is what is corrected with the lens profile for the 35 FLE whereas the lens profile corrects the edges of the APO 35, I'll take edge distortion over barrel distortion since more on my principal subjects are centered or slightly off centered, seldom if ever at the edge of the frame. The difference is slight with or without lens correction for both of these lenses, meaning I can live with the resulting images with or without lens correction. For what its worth the 35 FLE appears to be slightly wider than the APO 35. Yet, this opens up a whole new avenue for me when selecting a lens for how I make photos, thank you. Anyways, I hope this helps. P.S.: Truly boring and un-interesting photos not worth sharing online. Edited June 3 by patrickcolpron For what it's worth...
