Fleabag Posted May 15 Share #1 Posted May 15 Advertisement (gone after registration) I had a strange problem with a lens update that came out of nowhere. I recently udated my SL2 via the App. That worked without any problems. Now, a couple of days and a couple of shootings later, the camera desplayed lens update in progress when I started it. I don't know where that came from, because it can't have been on the SD card. A, there was no card in the camera during the update (I know this because I once more forgot to save my user profiles...) and B, I format the card before every shoot, so I had been formated a couple of time since the update. Nonetheless, an update started (with the SL 75mm APO on the camera) and it never stopped. I let it run for a while (like an hour), then the battery was getting dangerously low. So I tried to shut of the camera, didn't work. After some consideration, I decided to pull the battery, hoping it wouldn't kill the lens or camera. I put in a new battery, update started again. After another 30 minutes, I decided to pull the battery again and detach the lens. That helped, camera and lens seem OK and both show to be on the latest firmware. I downloaded the firmware again and put it on the SD card, but the lens wouldn't update again as it was on the latest firmware already. Everything works fine as far as I can tell, but it leaves a strange feeling. Did anyone have a similar issue? Any ideas what else I could do to make sure that no problems were caused by this? Advertisement Posted May 15 Posted May 15 Hi Fleabag, Take a look here SL Lens Update bug?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Babylonia Posted May 15 Share #2 Posted May 15 Well, maybe you didn't wait long enough in first place when updating, and took out the SD-card, still when update / upload of data was running, not ended ?? Always check the Firmware information itself after update is ended.
Fleabag Posted May 16 Author Share #3 Posted May 16 The CAMERA update went fine. I didn't update the camera via SD card, I used the Leica app. There wasn't even a card in the camera when updating. The new firmware was confirmed by checking it in settings. But days later, without me downloading it or starting it and with no update on the SD card (several formatings in between), the camera started a LENS update out of nowhere. That's what caused the problems.
BernardC Posted May 16 Share #4 Posted May 16 The camera firmware includes the latest lens firmware versions. Your camera will try to update any Leica L-Mount lens you attach, even if it's weeks after you updated the camera. The safest strategy is to mount your lenses on your updated camera after the camera update is done. That way you won't get an inconvenient update while you are out shooting. 1

Thank you, didn't know this was the way it worked. It's been a while now, no further problems. So luckily, the freeze during the lens update was just a hickup.
