Long time, but back again..

I've had lots of Leica gear over the years. Been bitten by GAS and all the stupid things that follow. And then in the end sold away all my camera gear, when it seemed I'm not using them all that much.. and was primarily shooting with just my iPhone. Happily snapping away, not paying attention - like your every day average person would do.

BUT the photos aren't really pleasing me. Looking at the best photos I've taken, they've all been with Leicas.

I loved rangefinders. BUT my eyesight isn't what it used to be, price of entry is terrible and also lack of practice means missing anything but static objects. Granted that could change with practice, but the other two not.

I've also had Q and Q2 in the past. I loved them as well and have some fantastic shots with them. But I'm not a really good wide shooter.. I tend to have too much foreground in the images ie. I'm too far out. I tend to have "include everything syndrome" with a 28mm.

50 seems a bit tight for me.. which makes me wonder about Q3 43. Most likely 35 would be the answer, but given the other variables, that's not a choice available.

Getting a used Q2 and cropping from there would save a huge amount of money. It's basically 50% of the price of slightly used Q3 43. I would even go so far as saying the options are really:

1) Q3 43 slightly used

2) Q2 in excellent condition

Why Q2 and not Q3? Well, I don't really need 60mp. If I were to build a perfect Q, it would be something like a 24mp Q3 43. I don't print big - I never have and most likely never will.

So in the end I've been thinking Q3 43 + use the iPhone for the more casual wide stuff. It's got a 13mm and 24mm lenses.

I guess the only slightly worrying thing about the Q3 43 is the 60mp.

You that have it, how easily does it get camera shake in the photos? Or is the IS upto speed and no need to worry at least day time?

Also there have been some mentions about the Q3 being slower in operation than Q2 and even Q3 43 being slower than Q3. Does that hold any water or maybe it's been improved through the firmware updates?

Anyways, just bouncing thoughts here. I'll appreciate any discussion this will generate. Not asking for anyone to decide for me - just discussion, what are the experiences, have you been thinking similar things, which way did you decide etc.

The floor is yours.

I have the Q3 and the Q3 43 - they're both fantastic.

If I had to do without one, it would be the 43mm.

The Q3 can easily be cropped to 50mm(75).

So with a Q3 you would have a 24-50(75)mm f 1.7, if you don't crop too m. That's what I would go with.

Then you can leave the phone at home ! 🙂

If you want 43-70(90) then of course it's the Q3 43.

But the Q3 is WAY more versatile.
