jaredguess Posted January 8, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 8, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) My brother just bought a black M4 from a fellow photographer who has used the camera on assignment for years flawlessly. He was handling the camera right after getting it and accidentally tried advancing the film while the shutter was open and now the shutter is stuck and the advance lever will only travel half-way. Any suggestions?

Shootist Posted January 10, 2008 Share #5 Posted January 10, 2008 My brother just bought a black M4 from a fellow photographer who has used the camera on assignment for years flawlessly. He was handling the camera right after getting it and accidentally tried advancing the film while the shutter was open and now the shutter is stuck and the advance lever will only travel half-way. Any suggestions? Excuse me but I don't understand. How do you try to advance the film when the shutter is open? Was the camera on B and he had his finger on the shutter button and then moved the film advance lever?
stunsworth Posted January 10, 2008 Share #6 Posted January 10, 2008 Maybe the camera was set to 1 second?
jaredguess Posted January 12, 2008 Author Share #7 Posted January 12, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) He said he was just testing it out and going through the shutter speeds and I think he was trying to wind too fast with his shutter set to 1/4 sec. I'm not sure how you could be advancing the lever that hard but thats what happened.
mongrelnomad Posted January 13, 2008 Share #8 Posted January 13, 2008 Same thing just happened to me yesterday with my M7 - the shutter wasn't open, but it's sure as h*ll jammed closed now... If anyone's in Israel and wants to sell an old M for a reasonable price (or knows somewhere that sells second-hand Ms), let me know....
