TBH, haven't noticed any differences yet....anyone found any?   (same on my M11 monochrome......updated but no obvious changes to my eye yet )

edit.....sems it has something to do with power use...hopefully may improve battery duration on the D-Lux8 (though not expecting it)

Extra battery life would be a nice bonus, but I'm dubious. What I recall reading was it reduced current use when in stand-by mode. What is standby mode? Since the D-lux 8 has no sleep mode the only thing I can think of is if you set your screen auto-shutoff for a shorter period than camera auto-shut off. Maybe that's Standby mode. Either way, without a proper sleep mode, and lower current usage during sleep mode, I will see no benefit. I turn the camera on, take a pic, then turn it off. Lather-rinse-repeat. No Standby mode.

Bottom line, I don't need the update. The only problem I'm having with the camera is the spurious flashing blue light while accessing the menu system. It's already been confirmed the 1.5.0 does not rectify this odd behavior.

For me, I'll probably just wait a few weeks to see if the firmware has any bugs, before making the jump.

Cheers

Two observations

noticing much quicker startup of camera from power off

zoom does resume last focal length fr sleep mode.

Faster startup is a good thing.

Please tell me more about the sleep mode. Some reviewers have lamented the lack of a sleep mode in the D-Lux 8. I find only options for auto-off in the menus.

Do you mean the zoom resumes after power off/power on cycle? That would be a nice and unexpected bonus.

Cheers

On Startup:  significantly faster

on Zoom

on startup: zoom goes to 24

on wake up from sleep: resumes last focal length

For sleep vs power off settings:

Go to camera settings / Power saving: two options:

Auto Power off : off, 1,2,5,10 mins

Displays and AF off: off , 1,2,5

On Blue dot:

turn off connectivity

ensure your not trying to pair

if you have a device defined, delete it and redefine it (this worked for me)

I've never seen "sleep mode" declared "Displays and AF off". But, you are correct, it is a sleep mode. It leaves the lens extended during sleep mode, which leaves the camera mechanically ready when it wakes up. I'd still like the option to "zoom-resume" after a power-up from off. A faster power up would lead me to just turn off the camera between shots, instead of using sleep mode, and leaving the lens standing proud while I walk around. Still, it's nice to know how it works and to have options.

The spurious blue light: My iphone is not compatible with the FOTOS app, so I cannot install. With nothing to talk to, I leave connectivity off on the camera. Still get the blue light. I suspect a process in the camera is ignoring the connectivity setting and polling to see what it can connect to. Leica support has duplicated this behavior on their demo camera.

Thank you for your assistance and clarification.
