So Leica takes the time to create and publish a four page PDF about this update, and this is all the information we get?

It's such a complete lack of useful information, I almost can't help but be impressed.

Updating firmware is not something I take lightly. I'm going to wait to learn more about what this update offers before jumping in. Frustrating that they offer so little info.

I also plan a delayed install for this update.

I do the same for computer updates and iphone updates. Let the early adopters be the lab rats, I say.

This is especially true in a camera.

On my PC, a bum update can easily be rolled back to an earlier restore point.

On the other hand, a bricked camera is a bricked camera. Nothing I can do to undo.

Interesting. Thank for the post.

I'd have much preferred a proper sleep mode, like every digital camera I have ever owned.

Cheers

Posted (edited)

Firmware updated without any glitches  I applied it thru the FOTOS app. Quick Easy Smooth.

An initial look - I notice nothing, repeating my comment from the 1.4 update , no wonder it went smooth , nothing changed :)

Was hoping for :

step zoom

position to last focal length on power-on

I would recommend to apply it if only for internal updates that may be there but not noticeable after a quick Look.

This is not a good idea since the camera comes with a safety cord that you can attach to the lens cap, so you don't lose it. The cord is not long enough to reach the maximum focal length with the cap covering the lens. If this was a feature the cord would snap if you turned on the camera and the last used focal length is long enough.

What I would love to see as a new features:

  • Step zoom function with the most popular focal lengths (35mm eq.): 24mm, 28mm (like in the Leica Q3), 35mm, 43mm (like in the Leica Q3 43), 50mm, 75mm.
  • The possibility to see more data in playback mode, eg. the focal length, histogram, date and time.
  • The possibility to apply film looks on RAW images in playback mode. For example, I have a photo that I took in RAW and B&W JPEG. This feature would add another JPEG photo from the RAW file by using the selected film look (e.g. VIVID or NATURAL).

Good point, some work arounds:

Recall and re-issue  with a longer cord.

When the camera detects lens cap on disable the feature.

The camera is a tool that hopefully is as functional and purposeful as possible to deliver a high quality image while offering a pleasing user interaction.

for the most part it does but step zoom would add to the experience

When waking up after going to sleep the camera goes back to the previous zoom setting, thus I don't think that this is really the problem.
