jim bun Posted May 2 Share #1 Posted May 2 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just purchased a Leica SL (typ 106) and Lumix S-R1840 lens. I'm getting this error on the back display: Lens firmware not supported. Please update firmware. I checked the camera information under settings and the firmware version is 4.1. I checked Panasonic firmware, and there doesn't appear to be any firmware updates for the lens: https://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dsc/download/index4.html Am I missing something? Would appreciate any guidance.
Advertisement Posted May 2 Posted May 2 Hi jim bun, Take a look here Leica SL (typ 106) and Lumix S-R1840 lens firmware issue. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
trix4ever Posted May 2 Share #2 Posted May 2 My Sigma Fp does this. Until you twist the zoom ring around to the 18mm mark, then it's very happy...
trix4ever Posted May 4 Share #3 Posted May 4 Ok well this is odd. On the Fp you can put the lens on with the barrel minimised, turn it on and then zoom to the 18mm mark and the message disappears and the image appears on the back. With my SL the message stays no matter how the lens is set. However if you extend the lens before you switch the SL on, it works perfectly with no message and obviously has the correct firmware as distortion is corrected and all works well. I will have to try it on my S1R and SL2-S... Hope this helps.
trix4ever Posted May 13 Share #4 Posted May 13 I've tried the 18-40mm on all my L-mount cameras. On my Fp, SL2-S and S1R, when the camera is turned on, one gets the firmware warning, but as soon as you extend the lens to the 18mm position or beyond the warning disappears and the lens functions fine, distortion is corrected so all good. On my SL and CL the warning does not go away upon extending the lens. However if you extend the lens before switching the camera on it works fine and again all distortion corrected. All cameras on latest firmware except the SL2-S which is back in the dark ages as I didn't want to lose mf magnification via the joystick as the next firmware introduced. I know that's been fixed since but I'm still wary to update it. So, all in all, odd behaviour but nothing that stops one using the lens/camera combinations. In practice I only use the 18-40mm on my Fp as a compact walking around camera, which works great and it's a surprisingly sharp lens with a handy range. Hope this helps people in the future who get thrown by this behaviour.
