You would be correct except the retailer doesn’t purchase directly from Leica Germany and therefore doesn’t pay the tariffs to customs. He pays an importer who pays the tariffs and sells wholesale for a price greater than 10% more to protect their margin

The retailer pays at least the tariff as add-on. The importer may or may not ask for more than the tariff (for whatever reason), at the end store prices for Leica cameras will see a major hike due to tariffs and exchange rate increases.

I wouldn’t call the new prices, with the exception of accessories ( and the d-lux) a major hike!

retail prices set by Leica in the us seem to not change frequently with exchange rate changes.

as I said before, the probability is if you can afford a $8k camera an increase of 10% isn’t going to prevent a purchase!

Maybe not yet for all products, however yet to come. Especially once the grace period for Europe runs out and the additional 35% kick in...

Same for upcoming exchange rate increases. Sure, Retailers usually don't adjust prices frequently dur to exchange rate increases, however once this hits >20%, they will.
