Learner Posted January 6, 2008 Share #1 Posted January 6, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is it so that any lens designed for an "M" camera can be used on ANY model of "M" camera, including the M8? To put it another way, will lenses for the M8 also work on M3 thru M7? Thanks

phovsho Posted January 6, 2008 Share #2 Posted January 6, 2008 Generally that is the case. The M refers to the mount used to to connect the lens to the body. However, I think there are some compatability issues with collapsible lenses and the M8, due to the sensor. But I'm no expert. M
giordano Posted January 6, 2008 Share #3 Posted January 6, 2008 Is it so that any lens designed for an "M" camera can be used on ANY model of "M" camera, including the M8? To put it another way, will lenses for the M8 also work on M3 thru M7? So far there are no lenses specifically for the M8, so that question doesn't arrive. With a few exceptions all M-mount lenses work fine on all M-mount cameras. Some of the exceptions: Most collapsible lenses must be used with caution (or not collapsed) on the M8. Collapsible lenses must not be collapsed on the M5 and CL. Early ultra-wide angle lenses that protrude deep into the camera body must not be used on the M5 and CL and may interfere with TTL exposure metering on other bodies. Bodies with short-base rangefinders (e.g. the CL and the Voigtlander Bessas) may not focus reliably with standard or long lenses at very wide apertures. The lenses designed for the CL may not focus perfectly at their widest apertures on other M bodies. Issues such as focus shift and inaccurate rangefinder coupling seem to be much more obvious with the M8 than with film cameras.
