Advertisement Posted February 16 Posted February 16 Hi Jano, Take a look here Q3 focus tab not locking. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LocalHero1953 Posted February 16 Share #2 Posted February 16 Can you actually move the ring into the AF position? I.e. 'AF' is aligned with the registration mark? The lock on the ring prevents this happening smoothly, and it is not obvious how to release the lock if you're not familiar with the Q.
Jano Posted February 16 Author Share #3 Posted February 16 I can move the ring freely between both ends of the ring. Meaning in and out of AF without any resistance or locking.
LocalHero1953 Posted February 16 Share #4 Posted February 16 Can you move the lock catch at all? It's a sort of rocking movement. Does it make any difference if you hold it in the open or closed position?
Jano Posted February 16 Author Share #5 Posted February 16 The little trigger on the tab can be pushed down but it does nothing. I returned it to the seller and he will contact Leica and see what the problem is. It must be busted because it cannot be that it is that gard and fiddly to get it to work. I tried a few times , my wife too.
Le Chef Posted February 16 Share #6 Posted February 16 You have to hold down the little tab until you can rotate the barrel of the lens. It’s now in manual focus. To put it back into auto, you have to reverse the process and hold down the tab until you feel the lens click into place. It’s now in auto. 1
markie linhart Posted February 16 Share #7 Posted February 16 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Jano, This is a major problem. I bought my Q that had exactly the same issue. Didn’t realise til I got it home, some 100km away. It just moved freely between AF and manual all the time. I tried taping the ring to keep it in place but that wasn’t practical. After a ruined photo shoot I sent the Q to Leica Repair right here in Melbourne (aren’t we lucky). The tab itself can’t be replaced - you’ll have to have a new lens and that was what Leica did. The quote was scary high for me but when the work was done it was a lot less. I now have a perfect Q…

Clandrel Posted February 16 Share #9 Posted February 16 I had the same problem with a brand new Q3 43. Had to be sent in. Took 7 weeks, and they fixed it. But now suddenly the eye detector on the EVF was broken. After that I received a brand new replacement. Wasn’t the perfect start on my journey with the Q system.
