Olaf_ZG Posted February 8 Share #1 Posted February 8 Advertisement (gone after registration) During a citytrip, entering a bar, I took off my backpack, forgetting that I had the Q over my shoulder. Together with the pack it came off, but the difference was that the pack was in my hands, and the Q not. I only noticed it as I heard something falling on the stone floor. When I looked down, there was my Q. I picked it up, sat down at a table, ordered a glass of wine and inspected the camera. The (non-original) hood is damaged: scratched and slightly out of shape. The Q nothing, the handgrip nothing. All is working as should, no misalignment which I noticed. I guess the hood took the hit, and that’s the reason I always have a hood, whatever camera, to protect the lens. Nice to see that the Q can handle a bit of roughness. 18

I think I'd have ordered a whole bottle!

Tarekith Posted February 8 Share #5 Posted February 8 I guess that’s also another upside of using a hand grip too, some more protection should you need it.

Yep! Thats why i have the original Leica Grip and Finger Loop on my Q2 and a hand loop for my SL2 as i never use a neck strap. I have my cameras either in my hand (also for hours) or if not in use for a hypothetic longer time inside a sling or messenger bag. However, good to hear that your camera is fine! bobtodrick Posted February 8 Share #7 Posted February 8 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’ve always used a hood since I dropped my M4 with 35 Asph Summicron on cement patio about 25 years ago. Like the OP, the hood took the hit and had to be replaced…that was the extent of the damage. Without the hood I’m sure the front ring of the lens and possibly the front element would have been toast.
Aram Langhans Posted February 8 Share #8 Posted February 8 Whew. That was a close call. Glad it worked out for you. Makes me feel more confident in my Q

So you sat down . . . at a table in a bar . . . to inspect a Leica you had just dropped . . . on a stone floor? And you ordered a glass of wine? I’m sorry, mate, but nothing short of whisky or tequila will suffice in that situation . . . .
flappo Posted March 5 Share #12 Posted March 5 Being a Leica there was probably a dent in the floor
Miltz Posted March 6 Share #13 Posted March 6 About 12 years ago a friend just bought a new Nikon DSLR. He dropped the camera right out of the box on the cement street in NYC. The camera bounced multiple times and finally came to a stop. I was in shock. The camera still works perfectly to this day. Those plastic bodies really can take abuse too. lol

Он уронил камеру прямо из коробки на цементную улицу в Нью-Йорке. Камера несколько раз подпрыгнула и наконец остановилась. Я был в шоке. Камера до сих пор отлично работает. Эти пластиковые корпуса действительно выдерживают жестокое обращение. lol The Leica has a metal body. But plastic holds the impact well too.
