Chris W Posted February 11 Share #41 Posted February 11 Advertisement (gone after registration) I would consider keeping the second M240.
Advertisement Posted February 11 Posted February 11 Hi Chris W, Take a look here M240 “lost” on the way to Wetzlar for service. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Chris W Posted February 11 Share #42 Posted February 11 Talking about the elephant in the room- the service standard. In 35 plus years I've only ever had two cameras repaired. The winder on my M6 started to fail (around 1999) and my Epson RD1-s went out of rangefinder calibration twice. Albeit I've bought and sold a lot of cameras over the past 20 years, but you'd hope you never (or rarely) need to have a Leica repaired.
andybarton Posted March 21 Author Share #43 Posted March 21 I am very pleased to report that I have been to Manchester this afternoon to collect my M240. There was no communication from Wetzlar or London that I know of after I’d accepted the quote, but Manchester sent a text at lunchtime to say it was ready to collect. So, that was about 3 1/2 months from leaving my hands to being back in them including the Christmas shut down. That’s a lot quicker than I anticipated, but to be fair, they reckoned there was nothing wrong with it and just gave it a clean and a once-over. I’ll be able to give it a test over the coming week. As always, I was well looked after by David and Ben and the guys in Manchester.

So, with nothing being wrong, your camera has been sent to Leica and returned, a journey of 3.5 months… I guess even Croatian post is quicker. Nice to have the camera back, but hopefully it don’t need a second trip, as they couldn’t find anything.
andybarton Posted March 21 Author Share #45 Posted March 21 Yes, but someone has checked it over and cleaned the sensor. I’m pretty certain that they’ve cleaned something under the shutter speed dial, but can’t prove that.
