Interval shooting on DLux-8: switching off between shots

I use a Dlux-8, firmware 1.4

I have been trying to set up night time interval shots (30 s exposure, 2 s gap between exposures, 400 exposures). Took me a while to find out that to accomplish this, I need to set the exposure interval to 32s (30 + 2) instead of 2 seconds, as seemed logical to me (the dlux 8 manual does not describe the interval shooting option, which is an oversight I assume).

However, when I set the interval to 32s, the camera takes a shot, switches off, then switches back on, takes another shot, switches off again, etc. etc. Is this a camera issue, or am I doing something wrong ? Any suggestions welcome.
