kiwibloke Posted January 30 Share #1 Posted January 30 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can't get my head around the fotos app, In one mind I think it's great, quick to download and view photos, geotag photos, do a bit of camera setup and upload new updates for my camera. On the down side, I hate the way Lightroom, Darkroom and Capture One are baked into the app, I know they are only shortcuts but I don't use them, why can't I turn them off, Ive have tried downloading all of them and using them, hated all for either the cost or the way they work, so why can't any of them be unchecked, when I tried Capture one, I was left with a number one in the corner of every photo, I had to delete the app and re-install it to get rid on the One. All photos once downloaded also go into Apple photos and Photomator, I can edit them there, I did this and then deleted all photos from the Leica App, and lost all the photos, luckily I managed to retrieve them from the recently delete folder, Does anyone know if there is a way to downloaded the photos using the fotos app, save them to Apple Photos and then delete them from the fotos app, other wise I'll just have a load of double ups, which is why I don't use LR, DR or C1. I know I can just download straight to my iPad, MacBook or iPhone but it would be nice to be able to use the fotos app. Rant over. cheers. PhotoCruiser Posted January 30 Share #2 Posted January 30 (edited) Many Apple users have lost all their photos and videos because the Apple Fotos Mediathek crashed and got corrupted. If you wanna keep that workflow then i strongly suggest you to export the photos from the Photos App to a external memory device. The most safest is still to copy the photos from the camera to a computer as first action, before doing something else, then you can use Leica Fotos App and the editor of your choice. I did a quick check on my iPhone 15 Pro Max and when i delete photos in Leica Fotos then they get deleted also in the iOS Fotos app what let me believe that Leica Fotos does store the downloaded Photos in the Apple Fotos app/database. Once they have been imported into Lightroom, they are initially stored in a cache on the device until they are uploaded to the Adobe Cloud. PhotoCruiser Posted January 31 Share #5 Posted January 31 I just stumbled over another problem with the Leica Fotos App saving the pictures in the Apple Media Library. From when i have the SL2 and using the Leica Fotos App to download the fotos in the field my MacBook and external drive is always busy doing something and finder show me that there is a 230GB upload to iCloud to do. Investigating what this could be i came to the conclusion that it must be the additional photos from the Leica Fotos saved in the iOS Photos media library. I did not took considerable amount of iPhone Photos so the only explanation is the Leica Fotos photos. As the iCloud is terribly slow this upload takes days and forever if every day Leica Fotos store more photos in the Apple Photo Library. That should be a change Leica should tackle down, the possibility to choose where the photos from Leica Photos get stored to avoid continuous upload of new photos. If you use only the iPhone or iPad then there is not a lot to do and see my post above. Chris
kiwibloke Posted January 31 Author Share #7 Posted January 31 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use Photomator at the moment as that links nicely with apple photos, it’s just a hobby so it’s enough editing for me, that may change as Photomator has been acquired by Apple, so could get worst or better, who knows. kiwibloke Posted February 16 Author Share #8 Posted February 16 I finally bit the bullet and have gone back to Lightroom, partly to see if I can get this Leica Fotos app to work and get out of the Apple system, but during the install and migration of my photos all went well until I tried the Leica Fotos app again, all the photos I had on the app (which I had delete ) came back, which I thought they might, then as I linked the Leica Fotos too Lightroom and download/uploaded to Lightroom all seemed ok until I got a warning that my drive on my MacBook Air was getting full, this was strange because it is brand new, anyway to cut a long story short, the Leica Fotos app installed my 80+ photos in 80+ folder each with the 80+ photos in each one so my Documents folder ended up with an extra 220gb in it, so I had to delete the LRC catalog and start again, after of course deleting the Leica Fotos app, I have since moved to Lightroom and deleted LRC as well, now of course I can't trust installing the Leica Fotos app again, I have reported this to Leica but they are not interested, they haven't even answered any of my emails except to say they have received them. Is there a way to use the Leica Fotos app just for geotagging and updating the camera but without importing any photos? Thanks
