The Leicaflex series of high-end single-lens reflex 35 mm format film cameras were introduced by Leitz Camera in 1964. The first camera body was paired with the new R bayonet series of lenses. Three model of the cameras were sold by Leitz; the Leicaflex Standard, the Leicaflex SL and the Leicaflex SL2.

In 1968 the Leicaflex SL was introduced, with the SL standing for selective light. The Leicaflex SL featured TTL metering with a 5% selective measurement of the subject field, corresponding with the diameter of the circle of the micro prism. This meant that the Leicaflex SL was the first SLR camera with selective TTL metering. This was considered theoretically superior to other systems that relied on the average reading of the whole prism.

The year 1914 marked the birth of 35 mm photography as we know it today. 100 years ago, Oskar Barnack created the very first Leica, the Leitz Camera.

• The Leica IIIf, a screw-mount 35mm rangefinder camera, was introduced by Leica in 1950 and continued in production until 1957.

• The Leicaflex SL, known for its selective light through-the-lens (TTL) metering, was introduced by Leitz in 1968 • Leica

• The Leica T (Typ 701) was announced by Leica Camera on April 24, 2014. The Leica T was the first camera to use the Leica L-Mount (originally called the T-mount).

Barnack Leica's are not known for being street shooters in modern age. Everyone wants a Leica M6 with a fancy light meter. After I did a CLA (Clean Lubricate Adjust) on the Barnack iiif, its ready to be taken out for a street walk.

Decade of Leica 35mm films cameras
• Leica iiif (1954) Barnack
• Leicaflex SL (1972)
• Leica R4 (1980)

Leica iiif (1954) Barnack Leica's are better than any analog M cameras except for the viewfinder/rangefinder department. Incredibly small and compact, Ridiculously quite, Extremely well made lenses.

The Leicaflex SL, like so many of the brand's early SLRs, provides only the essentials; a great viewfinder, a beautiful shutter sound, Great viewfinder, Solidly built camera like a tank. Black version usually military+police official standard issues.

The Leica R4, they are simply perfect, razor sharp, contrasty, and of incredibly strong build. In spite of its little ergonomics problems, the Leica R4 is a very good choice for those wishing to enter the world of high quality photography.

Leica M10 Monochrom
Discover more in black and white
The Leica M10 Monochrom opens the door to a new dimension of black-and-white photography. Equipped with a newly developed image sensor, the camera delivers an extremely high-quality rendition with breathtaking detail resolution.
The absence of a color filter array and exceedingly high sensor resolution of 40 megapixels result in an unprecedented depiction of even the finest details, along with an exceptionally natural-looking sharpness.

the M9 Monochrom instead of the M10 Monochrom?
Each model has its pros and cons. The Leica M9 Monochrom (M9M) produces images that resemble Tri-X but are not exactly the same. The ISO is usable up to 3200, and the noise resembles the grain from Kodak TMAX P3200. However, it lacks live view, and its response time is not as quick as the M10M. The newer model is more reliable in terms of battery life, and with its high ISO capability, you can use up to 100,000 ISO. Overall, the Leica M9 Monochrom is a great camera and feels analog. The dynamic range is slightly better with the M10M, but highlights are not recoverable once they are overexposed. In my opinion, the M9M is more aesthetically pleasing, and the files require less editing to achieve the desired look.
