Daniel Brauer Posted January 22 Share #1 Posted January 22 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’m not sure if this helps anyone, but I was surprised to find that while Leica recommends you use a UHS-II card in the D-Lux 8, the camera itself only has a UHS-I card slot. You can just see this from the pins in the slot, and from the lack of marks left on the extra contacts of a brand new UHS-II card. If that’s not enough, there’s literally an SDXC “I” logo on the door which covers the slot. This means that there is literally no way the camera benefits from UHS-II cards, as it relies on their backwards-compatibility with the pins for UHS-I. Transfer rates from the camera are in line with UHS-I speeds. The only reason I can imagine Leica recommending UHS-II cards is so that they can be read faster by an external card reader. In my opinion, it is deceptive to put this unqualified recommendation in the spec sheet for the camera. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Hi Daniel Brauer, Take a look here D-Lux 8 does not have a UHS-II card slot. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Interesting but I doubt that there is any attempt to be deceptive. Probably just a typo or copy-paste kind of error on the part of whoever edited the specs that mention UHS-II. NigelG Posted January 22 Share #3 Posted January 22 Seems pretty clear here…A type II card is “recommended”. https://leica-camera.com/en-GB/photography/cameras/d-lux/d-lux-8/technical-specification

The camera clearly does not have the extra contacts for UHS-ii so, it cannot make use of the UHS-ii interface and it seems that there no point in using a UHS-ii card. Daniel Brauer Posted January 30 Author Share #5 Posted January 30 The frustrating thing is that the spec sheet should state the spec, which is a UHS-I slot. Any unqualified recommendations should be clearly separate. Most sites and reviewers have been fooled by this, and say that the camera has a UHS-II slot. Sorry if I wasn’t clear - I was posting the approved/issued technical specification document to show that IMHO it wasn’t a simple “copy/paste” error. I know that a type-I slot in the camera won’t take advantage of the type-II card…I think it’s deliberately misleading to fool you into thinking the camera has a type-II slot. My thinking is that there is absolutely no reason for Leica to be deceptive. I mean, Leica would not benefit in anyway at all from "tricking" customers into buying a UHS-ii SD card and in fact, Leica are now suffering by the error due to them looking either deceitful or dumb. To me, it is an embarrassing error without any malicious or deceitful intent.

It doesn't matter Intentionally or typo, Leica should respond to clarify it.

At minimum, I would expect the user manual and specs page to be corrected. An explanation or mea culpa from Leica would be nice but of course, there will be none of that.
