Anyone traded their Q3 43 for Q3 28?

Hello, 

 

Just wanted to give you all an update. I finally got the Leica - the Q3 43 mm today. 
Today was also a great day because I got someone on FB marketplace who bought my Sony Rx1R II that I got in 2017. I was able to get $2000 for it so I am very happy.

have just traded in my Q3 43mm for 28mm just like the bite at f1.7 over f2 and 35mm framelines when used and its a Q2

I am an M11 shooter that got caught on the sl3 world. Basically between those two systems there’s nothing that cante be covered.

i had a q2 and let it go because I didn’t resonate enough with it. It was technically my wife’s but she wanted a d8 instead.

so I got  a q3 43 and in floored. It’s incredible, it’s perfect but……. The 28 is far more flexible if that’s your only camera on hand. 
 

I traveled with the q2 and had some great captures taken withought a thought and with a little cropping.

the q3 43 is, IMO a better camera and lens, but, since it’s a fixed lens, it’s only best if you’re committed to 43 and above. Then it’s an amazing choice.

if you want a more flexible range to work from the 28’s are a better choice.

so, basically, if you’re a 50 shooter and want to play …. Q343 is it. If you’re a 35 or an iPhone shooter and want quality optic s to play with. 28.

You don't need to be an "iPhone shooter" to like the 28mm focal length....

Of course not. Sorry if I offended you. 28 mm is a great FL. And I actually love the images that come from it.  Looking into the Leica magazine gallery, as well as the images on this site, make that clear.

I got my love of 28mm after getting a Q3. I imagined I would crop a lot but rarely do.

Yes exactly

The Q series (as any other camera with a fixed lens too) has a old fashioned kind of zoom, it's called legs and walking.
If walking towards or from the scene is not possible then the 28mm save a given situation where the 43mm is too short to get all in the picture, and that is exactly the reason why i prefer the 28mm, but thats me. However, i know that feeling to use a lens and not getting warm/resonate with her and it's certainly every owns decision what he likes more.
Maybe it's also as i love to use 14/15mm wide angle lenses for wide open spaces landscape is one of my favourite things to photograph and just watch so i am biased in this direction, the opposite of a 50mm or a tele shooter.

yes I changed to 28mm Q3 then Q3 43mm and then Q2 , I just don't like flippy screen probably would have stuck with a regular Q if had a bit more weather resistant less is more lesson learned indeed kinda like M10 - M11 .

Nope - bought both and carry them together in a Thinktank mirrorless mover bag.

In May 2019 i bought a Q in Geneva as the Q2 was not available in all Europe and then in August 2019 i could get a Q2 in Germany.
I remember that the Q2 was quite superior to the Q, starting with the much better EVF the Q2 has and then the sealing what matters to me as i carry the cameras a bit all over the world and off the beaten tracks.
Not sure if the Q3 28mm is a real step ahead over the Q2, but the Q2 was one over the Q.

My wife has a Q2 and I have a Q3, the differences are there but not so major in my opinion. Single point AFS is quick in both cameras, AFC is better in the Q3, I do find the face detect much more effective in the Q3 and very usable for slow moving subjects. I’m not a pixel peeper but image quality seems very good in both, the Q3 holds onto the highlight data a little better and has a little more resolution so I would assume you can get away with a bit more there, but I’ve used both and I can barely notice a difference. The Q2 has a nicer look without the protruding rear screen but I’m a big fan of it personally and accept the trade off, I use it a lot for lower shots and would miss it if it wasn’t there. Subjective, but I much prefer the colours from the dng conversions in LR coming off the Q3. Leica did a good job with these. The AWB isn’t the best but once that is corrected, the colours work for me. The Q3 also feels more responsive as one would expect from a newer model.

I really like my Q3 43.   I carry it 84% of the time.  I also have a Q with 28 and an M with a 28 Summilux.  So, I have choices.
