JiriS Posted January 7 Share #1 Posted January 7 Advertisement (gone after registration) Greetings, does anybody know if/when a RAW video output over HDMI is coming to Leica SL3? I would love to be able to record ProRes RAW on Atomos Ninja Ultra. It seems that currently only SL2-S is supported.
Advertisement Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Hi JiriS, Take a look here Leica SL3 and ProRes RAW. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Photoworks Posted January 8 Share #2 Posted January 8 only Leica knows until it is official. for now nothing, but I don't think it will be on the SL3
JiriS Posted January 9 Author Share #3 Posted January 9 I have spoken to Leica and this is the response I received: I have spoken with the experts in Germany and they have let me know It is technically not possible to transfer 8k video via regular (the “old”) HDMI. They could not say if recording 4k ProRes RAW will or can be added via an update in the future.
Photoworks Posted January 10 Share #4 Posted January 10 What are you trying to film that you need 8k RAW? I think only 2 cameras are even doing and you need supporting cables and drives. It is often overkill, LOG is very good, but you will need to set WB and exposure correctly.
JiriS Posted January 11 Author Share #5 Posted January 11 Honestly for my current needs LOG is enough. I am working in high end VFX and at some point I want to do some green/blue screen work for a side project so raw would be good for the extra fidelity when keying. Yes for the green screen the ProRes would be good, Aldo not RAW you can still record ProRes HQ to the Ninja. keep in mind that h.265 is ok for capture in most cases, but when opening and closing the file for post-production the compression with degrade quickly, so it is better to convert to another format. Even 10 h.265 read the blacks start to look green even after 8-10 reads.
