Cogito Posted January 3 Share #1 Posted January 3 Advertisement (gone after registration) I notice that a small minority of photos in the Q3 43 photo thread are portraits. There are some great portraits here, but most photos(many stunningly good) are environments, people in distance or turned from camera, etc. Is this because: -The Q3 43 really not as good at portraits, even if cropping to 75mm-90mm? -The Q3 43 autofocus is lacking for precise focus on eyes? To be fair, many M portraits on the portrait thread struggle for focus. -People who purchase Q’s, who also post their photos here are generally too reserved to go up to someone and ask to take their portrait? -The best portraits taken with Q’s are professional work and can’t be shared on these forums? -Leica forum users post their best portraits on the dedicated portrait thread? -other? Advertisement Posted January 3 Posted January 3 Hi Cogito, Take a look here Q3 43 Portraits?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
keithlaban.co.uk Posted January 3 Share #2 Posted January 3 The Q3 43 will be useful for environmental portraiture but ideally I would choose a longer focal length for head and shoulders.

The Q43 is my daily carry. For serious portraits I use a SL, but for sure I will use the Q as well, just for fun. But, except from some private events I didn’t do portraiture yet since I got the Q. As soon as I have portraits I will add them.
LocalHero1953 Posted January 3 Share #4 Posted January 3 For 'photography for others', which includes most portraits, I use the SL2-S and various lenses, all of which have a wider aperture than the effective aperture of the Q3 43 at 75-90 crop. I would have no hesitation in using it for portraits if I had it with me, but the SL2-S with a choice of lenses (including the 24-90) is more versatile. I've been out of action with ankle repairs for much of the time since I got the Q3 43, but I should get more opportunities to try it more actively over the next few months. I hope you mend quickly.
