Does Leica SL2 shoot in Log in MP4 format?

When I switch from MOV to MP4 i seem to lose the ability to shoot in Log mode

L-log only works with 10-bit or better formats. I believe (the SL2 manual is not very specific) that most of the formats available in MP4 are 8-bit formats.

It's all about bit rate and bit depth. You can't do HDR with 8-bit files, so Leica locks-out L-log for 8-bit formats.

MP4 isn't inherently 8-bit, but Leica chose to use MP4 wrappers for 8-bit and MOV wrappers for 10-bit. It makes things simple once you understand the logic. From a user perspective, you would choose MP4 for quick videos that won't get much processing (editing is fine, but no colour correction or exposure correction). MOV is for everything else.

The main downside to MOV, other than file size, is that it isn't supported by the free version of Davinci Resolve. You can get around that by transcoding to a format that Resolve does support, or (obviously) by paying for a "Studio" license.
