Does anyone know of alternative wireless charging grips/baseplates? Because I have to be honest the official Leica grip is butt ugly.

Having bought the "Leica" wireless charger, I discovered it was a relabelled version of another make, albeit at a significantly higher price point that the original. It would be unheard of though to suggest that Leica "stole" the other party's tech/IP– heavens forbid

That said, with a spare battery, I have not felt the need to use the wireless charger and it rests in peace in its packing. The Leica handgrip though I find useful in its own right. It affords a firm grip on the grip, besides providing a stable bottom when the camera is placed on a flat surface. The only drawback I see is that it needs to be removed for a change of battery.

.....

You shouldn't always think the worst. Leica makes it clear that it is made by Native Union.

Why not just charge the camera using a UBC cable?

I do. But it would be cool to use tech that’s already part of everyday life. The grab and go that iPhones, EarPods and watches is awesome. Buying an ugly handgrip to engage the contacts and make a loop isn’t integration or utilising the grab and go ethos of wireless charging.

The difference is with the Q grip charger you’re taking an ugly and heavy chunk with you wherever you go. With Apple Watches and iPhones you leave the heavy stuff at home.

At most with the cable charging, I take the cable and maybe an apple plug in.

Sometimes technology adds unnecessary steps, like wireless charging, and using the Fotos app to download new firmware.

Simplest is usually the best.
