steinknies Posted December 8, 2024 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys I‘ve just ordered a brand new SL2-S (huge price drop at my hometown dealer 😉 ) and would like to pair it with some of my old R-Lenses. Thought I had been well prepared when expecting something in the price range of the M-L adapter but the reality was kind of a shock to me (Leica R-L 800€ 😱). Are there any good reasons to go for the Leica Version or would a Novoflex / Urth / …. adapter also do the trick? Any advice is highly appreciated! Thanks Daniel Edited December 8, 2024 by steinknies
Essummi Posted December 8, 2024 Share #2 Posted December 8, 2024 The Leica adapter transfers ROM data, the others do not. If your lenses do not have ROM, there is no additional benefit. Urth and Novoflex work fine on the SL2 (I have no Sl3 ). You can also stack an R to M on an M to L adapter.

LocalHero1953 Posted December 8, 2024 Share #4 Posted December 8, 2024 (edited) Some R lenses are heavy, so there can be a benefit to getting an adapter with a tripod foot, to give better balance. I had a R-M adapter that I paired with the M-L adapter I already had. I recently sold the R-M adapter (t=with tripod foot) for about £140, so you might want to look out for a used copy of either R-M or R-L. RobertS Posted December 8, 2024 Share #5 Posted December 8, 2024 I use a Metabones adapter which comes with a removable tripod mount. I am very pleased with it. It is well made and retails for $99 or 94€.
Kurvitasch Posted December 9, 2024 Share #6 Posted December 9, 2024 Hi I am using the Urth adapters and they are working very well. They actually allow PASM selection although you can’t actually use some auto functionality the S mode is the one I use most. The Leica one I had only did M mode and was so expensive. I am using old manual lenses of course. Hope this helps. I bought via Amazon Prime so that I could test out first!
dogman1911 Posted December 9, 2024 Share #7 Posted December 9, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a couple of Urth adapters including R to L. The fit and finish are nice and the price is palatable. I bought mine directly from Urth.
steinknies Posted December 9, 2024 Author Share #8 Posted December 9, 2024 Thanks for all the great input. I will try out the Urth adapter and let you know how that works for me.
Photoworks Posted December 9, 2024 Share #9 Posted December 9, 2024 i have gotten 3 adapters from Amazon in the sub $100 range. The Urth was the one with less play on the mount. I use the R lenses for video and the follow-focus movement was moving the lens too much, the Urth is the better one.
