DigitalHeMan Posted December 6, 2024 Share #21 Posted December 6, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Sami, Whereabouts in the world are you located? If you're near a local Leica store they may well be able to interact with Leica and help you understand the price without having to send the lens in in the first instance. However, as other posters have noted, there are plenty of Leica-trained technicians working at independent repair shops that should be able to help you at a much lower cost and much faster. If you have a good tech they will likely have access to the same sort of equipment that Leica uses to perform repairs, and ultimately the M lenses aren't rocket science - no electronics to worry about and dismantling as appropriate and regreasing is simple for these experts to handle.

Thanks a lot for the insight. I think I have a better idea of who the second-party repairers are and how the repair works. I do not have access to the Leica Store locally as I am in Toronto, Canada, and I usually send my stuff to Leica NJ for repairs etc.
Knightspirit Posted December 7, 2024 Share #23 Posted December 7, 2024 just for reference - I just sent a 50mm Summicron (v4) to Steve’s Camera in Culver City (Los Angeles ) for an aperture repair and CLA and I got it back in a couple of weeks for less than $400. I would never send to Leica unless absolutely necessary…
