I suspect that Leica assumed that Series 60 cameras were destined to sit on collectors' shelves rather than be used, so did the minimum amount of work when preparing the firmware.  Possible evidence for this is that while the M240 on which the Series 60 was based generated DNG files that incorporated lossless compression, the Series 60 creates uncompressed files of twice the size. So the program code for compression already existed but was never transferred to the newer camera. The same may have applied to the code needed to apply lens corrections.
