I assume you're the same person that posted on reddit? If so, you already started an amazing trend. My fav response to yours was someone posting their Leica with a few quarters and a cheap pen on a table, which is awesome. Happy for you! You're clearly authentically here, which is awesome, have a fun journey through all this.

They're definitely the same person, and their Reddit threads definitely got out of hand Fascinated to see what they buy next, but happy they've found LUF to help them get on their feet. Why are people so concerned with what I buy? I thought we would discuss leica, photography, and our projects here...not how a person spends his money

There will be judgement and there will be envy with attempts to pass it off as reason. It all serves no purpose other than showing you who to avoid. Looking forward to see this project come to life

You went in to buy a ~$6,500 Q3 and came out buying $35,000+ worth of camera gear. That's going to be shocking to a lot of people--shocked people can say shocking things 🤷🏽♂️ Your project sounds super interesting. Definitely a coffee table book I'd buy! 3D-Kraft.com Posted November 30, 2024 Share #29 Posted November 30, 2024 Welcome @Altair, nice introduction story. Regarding your question how to share photos in this forum: In my opinion, the procedure for uploading photos in this forum is too time-consuming and reduces the quality unnecessarily. My recommendation is, to use "flickr" to publish your photos and just put the link to your photo on flickr here into a post. The forum will automatically embed a preview in good quality and if a user clicks on that photo, the user will be taken to the original photo on flickr (in a new browser tab) where you see additional information, can zoom in etc. Regarding your initial lens selection, I think it is a good starting point and I share your enthusiasm for the Noctilux, although I could never decide on the 50/0.95 ASPH. For "magic", I prefer the more characterful 50/1.0 (non-ASPH), for portraits I prefer the 75/1.25 ASPH. If size and weight are a limiting factor, I use the Thypoch Simera 50/1.4 ASPH (for me the "better Summilux").
IkarusJohn Posted November 30, 2024 Share #30 Posted November 30, 2024 This is a nice palce to be, @Altair. Lots of good advice, and a quick way to become very poor if you’re not careful! I’m also an X2D user, and M system lover. I do think it’s worth establishing a little discipline in your hobby, otherwise it can get out of hand. The X2D and M systems go together well, but they do overlap. For myself, I think of the X2D for landscape and wide angle views, and perhaps travel. The M system is perfect for travel. And, my SL for telephoto, macro and that sort of thing. At this stage, I would think carefully about which system works for what for you. I must say, I’m surprised at your lens choices - very brave! I also have the 35 APO and the 0.95 Noctilux - a great base for your M system. You could stop there … For me, the M system is not really that great beyond 75mm or wider than 21mm. So, you have old and modern in 35mm. In terms of combinations, you could add a 75mm to go with your 35mm - the 75 Summilux is fantastic, with that combination of soft wide open and tack sharp stopped down. It was the lens Mandler ws most proud of. I’m not sure another 50 is really worth it, unless you find the Noct too heavy, in which case the APO is worth considering, and in wides, you might look at 28mm - the 28 Summilux is brilliant, and the 28 Summaron tiny and full of character. Finally, 21mm is useful - I have the 21 Summilux, but it can be a bit soft in the edges - people seem to like the 21 Super-Elmar. I hope the camera works for you. In the end, Leicas are more about the lenses than the cameras (strange as that may seem). Have fun! John
